Default Lang Park has a new lighting system. Team colours.

    Suncorp's true colours

Suncorp Stadium will be showing its true colours at future sporting events, with a new state of the art lighting system now installed.

Sports Minister Steve Dickson flicked the switch on the new system last night, sending all four corners of the top level of the Stadium awash in colour.

“The new lighting will draw attention to sport generally, not just at Suncorp Stadium, supporting the Government’s election promise to encourage more Queenslanders to get active,” Mr Dickson said.

“The stadium can be lit in any colour or colour combination with lighting switched between strobe, flash or still at the press of a button.

“Footy fans will be left in no doubt that Suncorp Stadium is the home of the Brisbane Broncos, the Queensland Reds, the Brisbane Roar, the Queensland State of Origin team, the Wallabies, Kangaroos and the Socceroos.

“Kids will now see their sporting heroes up in lights on the field and I hope that this will encourage them to get active at their local club – a key goal of the Newman Government’s Get in the Game program.

“This project has been undertaken as part of the Stadium enhancement programme aimed at providing teams greater ownership of the venue on game day.

“The lighting will be switched on during the nights leading up to major events like State of Origin, to create game day buzz and excitement as patrons arrive at local games, or to support colours promoting community initiatives.

“Sport is a key part of Queensland’s cultural identity and anything we can do promote it and in turn boost participation is something we welcome.”

Suncorp Stadium General Manager, Alan Graham said the new lighting was a cost effective way of giving the teams playing at the venue the home ground advantage.

“Stadium management works very closely with its hirers on how we can create extra value to their events. Customised branding through this lighting is a result of that close relationship,” Mr Graham said.

“The lighting we’ve installed makes it convenient and cost-effective to changeover between games for the multitude of hirers that use the Stadium.

“Lighting has been used with great success at places such as MetLife Stadium in New York, which is home to both the New York Jets and New York Giants, and that’s what will now see at Suncorp Stadium.”

    Wonderful. Love it.

But perhaps the Titans should have gotten a mention. As Lang Park is our Home venue for major finals games. Something we should promote but never do...

Imagine, we are one game from a Grand Final... Cartwright is watching on TV at home... and the stadium is awash with our club colours.
