Canberra Raiders winger Edrick Lee has been ruled out for the season with a foot injury and will undergo surgery on Friday to repair ligament damage.
Lee suffered the injury in the Raiders' loss to the Titans on Sunday night, with specialists deciding surgery was the only way to repair the damage.
The recovery period means he will miss the rest of the 2014 NRL season.
It is a blow for the 21-year-old winger who has managed to score 15 tries in 19 first-grade games for Canberra.
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said it's a devastating injury for Lee who has been in great form in the early rounds for the Raiders and has assured that Lee will get the best rehabilitation throughout his recovery.
"Edrick is a real strike weapon for us out wide and he's going to be sorely missed for the remainder of the year," Stuart said. "He is a young player on the rise and we'll make sure he gets the best rehabilitation after his surgery and we know he'll be back bigger and better for us next year."
Lee's injury has created an opportunity to former New Zealand Warriors winger Bill Tupou who will step up into first-grade for the first time in 2014.
"Bill Tupou gets an opportunity on the wing with Edrick out for the year and he's been in good form for the Mounties as have a number of players across our feeder and NYC teams," Stuart said.
Tupou will step out for his 66th first-grade game this Sunday afternoon when the Raiders head up to Sydney to take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Wests Tigers medical staff have today confirmed that fullback James Tedesco will be sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in the 34-18 victory over Manly Warringah at Leichhardt Oval.
Tedesco will have further scans on his ankle tomorrow morning and could potentially be sidelined for an extended period.
While it is clear that Tedesco will miss this Saturday’s clash against the Cowboys, an exact return date will not be known until Club medical staff receive the results of tomorrow’s scans.
One of the Club’s standout performers in the opening five rounds, Tedesco left the field in the 49th minute of the Manly clash.
Wests Tigers will provide a further update on Tedesco’s ankle injury tomorrow.

Tedesco facing nine weeks out
AAP
7:28pm Tue 08th April, 2014
Wests Tigers young gun James Tedesco is facing up to nine weeks on the sidelines following surgery to repair ankle syndesmosis.
Tedesco has been one of the in-form players in the NRL this season but limped off in Sunday's win against Manly at Leichhardt and went under the knife on Tuesday.
The club said a worst case scenario would see the Italy international miss up to nine weeks of football but with extensive rehabilitation the time period will be reduced to six weeks.
The findings of the surgery revealed the syndesmosis to be unstable with the 21-year-old undergoing a procedure to stabilise the ligament.
It is the second serious injury of Tedesco's burgeoning career following a year on the sidelines in 2012 after rupturing cruciate ligaments on his debut against Cronulla.

This will hurt the Tigers

One Clubman
Shame Tedesco seems injury prone, fantastic player and possibly the future fullback for NSW.
