McKinnon suffers fractured neck
The Newcastle Knights have revealed that the scan results of the injured neck of Alex McKinnon have confirmed a fracture of his C4 and C5 vertebrae.
The Knights said McKinnon's spinal cord is not severed but doctors are unsure about the level of spinal cord compromise. It will be a number of days or weeks until the full extent of his injury is known.
McKinnon was stretchered off just before half-time in the Knights' 28-20 loss to Melbourne on Monday night after landing on his head in an awkward tackle.
Club doctor Peter McGeoch and club officials have remained in Melbourne with McKinnon while his family have arrived in Melbourne to be by his side.
The Newcastle Knights say an update will be provided when there is additional information on the injury.
