Smith upbeat on Russell fitness

Warrington full-back Matty Russell is set to make his debut for the club when they travel to London Broncos on Sunday.

Coach Tony Smith signed Russell from NRL outfit the Gold Coast Titans ahead of the current campaign but he has missed the first three games due to a leg injury he picked up in pre-season.

Smith expects Russell to be available for Sunday's trip to London, but forward Ben Harrison faces up to five weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury last week.

Smith said: "Russell is likely for next week. He ripped it up in training on Saturday and Sunday, so fingers crossed, as long as there's no training accidents like we had with Ben Harrison.

"He's quite devastated at the moment. We've had a couple of players who have worked hard to get back fit over the close season and then have picked up injuries.

"But looking at the positives, Ben Evans got the call up and comes in and scores a try. A great way to bounce back after being dropped earlier in the week."
