NZRL to apply for development cash
New Zealand Rugby League will apply to the NRL for a slice of more than $200 million to be invested in the development of the game over the next four years.
A new broadcast deal means the NRL has money to spend in growing rugby league, with the grassroots a specific target.
NZRL CEO Phil Holden says while New Zealand contributes 35 percent of NRL players, they still have to put a case together to gain funding for fostering talent.
"They're going to invest for growth and they're going to invest in things that are fulfilling their priorities and as long as we are delivering on some of those priorities then I suspect we might be able to enjoy an increased level of support."
Holden says he's not prepared to target a specific funding amount.
