You can bet your life this top commentary team won’t be making any Blues
TITANS, Broncos and Cowboys fans may be left disappointed this season, with the Sydney Roosters overwhelming favourites to reclaim the premiership — but at least viewers north of the border will have something to cheer about.
Fox Sports is boosting its contingent of callers and analysts from Queensland, adding former Titans captain Scott Prince and Kevin Walters to Ben Ikin, Gorden Tallis and Gary Belcher in the commentary team.
They will be joined by Maroons stars Greg Inglis and Daly Cherry-Evans, who will also appear regularly.
The new additions should go some way to appeasing viewers in the sunshine state, who have often claimed a bias towards New South Wales in Fox Sports’ rugby league coverage.
The new-look line-up was unveiled at the official launch of Fox Sports’ winter sports offerings in Sydney last night with the NRL headlining a range of key domestic sports including Super Rugby and ANZ Championship Netball.
But the Fox Sports experts had bad news for fans of Queensland teams, with the Roosters widely tipped to become the first team in more than 20 years to claim back-to-back premierships.
Eels legend and key Fox analyst Peter Sterling believes it will be hard to go past the Roosters — who downed Manly 26-18 in a classic final last year — as premiership favourites.
“I think the Roosters are in the best position of any team in the last 20 years to defend the title, because they’ve kept the same team,” Sterling said.
Matt Shirvington, who will host a bolstered Super Saturday with up to 11 hours of live league, agreed.
“I can’t go past the Roosters, they’re going to be hard to beat again this year.”
Playtime is the wintertime theme, with the network aiming to bring the fun back into its coverage of sport this winter.
