New Zealand Rugby League is optimistic of hosting next year's landmark ANZAC test, after conceding this year's test.

The Kiwis and Kangaroos will meet in Sydney for the first time since 2008, with the one-off fixture to be held on May 2nd.

NZRL CEO Phil Holden says he's extremely keen to have the game back in New Zealand next year.

Holden says the centenary of the Gallipoli landings means there's a huge emotional connection with the game.

New Zealand and Australia will co-host the 2017 World Cup, with all of the Kiwis pool games to be played on home soil.
