    Default Ireland gets officially recognised!

    RLI GETS SPORTS COUNCIL RECOGNITION

Rugby League is the latest sport recognised by the Irish Sports Council with approval of Rugby League Ireland as a National Governing Body.

This recognition will now allow RLI to further develop the sport of rugby league throughout Ireland and will also allow the organisation to apply for funding from the Sports Council.

RLI originally applied to the Sports Council in 2011 and began a two year probation period on the 31st of October of that year. News of the recognition comes just two months after Ireland took part in what has been heralded as the most successful Rugby League World Cup to date where they took on Fiji, England and eventual winners Australia.

Speaking on the announcement RLI Chairman Dr Mick Molloy said “This is a massive boost for the sport in Ireland following the recent World Cup we can now develop the game further. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sports Council for their assistance throughout the process and of course our volunteers and staff who have worked hard at securing this recognition.”

Rugby League Ireland now can engage with the Sports Council, National Sports Campus Development Authority, Federation of Irish Sports, local sports partnerships, The Department of Tourism Transport and Sport and Minister Leo Varadkar to develop Rugby League in accordance with our strategic plan.

Insane to think that RL wasn't an officially recognised sport in parts of the British Isles...

Thats right, or SA! And still a big issue in many nations.

Maybe this was part of the reason for the RFL pulling funding of celtic nations?
