I agree with most zillman posts he can be good... But for some reason never ever plays to his potential.. I have him in the bottom 8 for fullbacks, and I rate him as the WORST supporting fullback in the NRL, if backed up as much as slater or even alby does he'd be so much better..

I remember him as going pretty good as a 16 year old kid on debut, and thought he really might have developed into the next big thing.

Rankin had great potential but wasn't allowed to fail as most young kids inevitably do. No patience from the club with him was the thin that most limited his first grade output.

Spot on. Carty is a young player killer. He likes the old boy club as he doesn't want to take a chance on developing a young side. In 2-4 yrs when CARTY is hopefully gone we will have to throw open the cheque book and pray we can get some of our young fellas back. But, why would they when they will be in teams out-performing us on a weekly basis. We will have to get used to the fact that a top 4 finish is beyond us with CARTY at the helm.

While I don't disagree with you completely, I wonder how many back to back games Rankin had with us to actually deliver upon the expectations? If the talent is genuine, great clubs/coaches have the fortitude to stick with their young guys in-spite of their mistakes, and allow them to grow and deliver on their promise. Sadly, we don't have a great record of this....
