Default Titans dominate Kangaroos train on squad

Gold Coast Titans dominate Kangaroos train on squad made up of non-finals teams
Ben Glover and Todd Balym | September 09 2013, 2:00PM

FORMER bad boy Albert Kelly has capped his breakout first NRL season with the Titans with selection in a Kangaroos train-on squad - one of seven Gold Coast players in the 18-man selection.

Kelly is joined by teammates Dave Taylor, Ryan James, Kevin Gordon, Aidan Sezer, Greg Bird and Nate Myles in the squad named by Australia coach Tim Sheens on Monday - chosen only from NRL clubs that missed the finals.

Apart from several uncapped Titans, Canberra playmaker Josh McCrone is the major surprise in a side that is unlikely to form much of the World Cup squad to play in October.

Skipper Sam Thaiday leads the Brisbane quartet which includes Origin teammates Matt Gillett, Corey Parker and the return of Ben Hannant.

While Queensland Origin rookie Josh Papalii, Test prop David Shillington, and centre Jarrod Crocker join McCrone to make up the Raiders contingent.

NSW Origin stars Jarryd Hayne (Parramatta), Robbie Farah (Wests Tigers) and Brett Morris (St George Illawarra) are the lone selections from their NRL clubs while Penrith and New Zealand Warriors did not have any players selected on Monday.

Kangaroos Squad: Matt Gillett, Corey Parker, Ben Hannant, Sam Thaiday, Brett Morris, Jarryd Hayne, David Shillington, Josh Papalii, Jarrod Crocker, Josh McCrone, Robbie Farah, David Taylor, Ryan James, Kevin Gordon, Aidan Sezer, Albert Kelly, Greg Bird, Nate Myles.

We will get 2 in the squad with maybe Taylor & James rough chances as injuries will probably play a major part in the team chosen.

As we ask every year, is it televised? Online or on tv. I dont think so and it really should be. Especially during the Finals when we have less games.

Meanwhile the afl has a gala evening to announce their own all Australian team.... We need to start somewhere to ensure these events mean more and more as they go forward.

I also think ryan James could sneak his way into the WC squad. He is the blend of aggro, size and youth that they might want to blood.

He is an in form version of tamou.

Prime Minister’s XIII players will attend a team medical and training session in Sydney on Thursday, September 19, at Allianz Stadium starting at 10.30am.
The team will then assemble in Cairns on Thursday, September 26, before travelling to Papua New Guinea.

Holden Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens will accompany the Laurie Daley-coached Prime Minister’s XIII team to Papua New Guinea with the match viewed as an important selection trial for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

    Really happy for them all,
but i am really really excited for KG. after sitting through the season with him, with that terrible leg injury, and watching his determination not only with footy but Uni, and his life in general, i am really stoked for him.

Champion, and proves what grit and determination can do.

    Well done champ

Inspiring stuff from Kevin. It's tremendous to see a man bounce back and excel on so many levels.

I think Alby deserved a go over Sezer for the halfback spot

It's pretty safe to say that the Kangaroo Squad isn't the best it could be when they take on PNG (rightly so IMO). But with that said though, it's still a good squad that will give them a good run for their money.
