    Newman likes Meninga statue idea

Mal Meninga may soon have his own statue outside Suncorp Stadium.
Move over Wally, Locky and Arty. There could soon be a statue of Mal Meninga at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium.

Premier Campbell Newman says he thinks it would be a great idea to have a lasting tribute to Test and Queensland great Meninga, who has coached Queensland to a record eight straight State of Origin series wins.

Suncorp Stadium is already home to statues of fellow rugby league legends Wally Lewis, Darren Lockyer and Arthur Beetson.

"If there's a strong move, if people are really going to give us the feedback that they want it, if the QRL are saying yep, this is something we want to see happen ... I think it's a great idea," Newman told B105 radio in Brisbane.

I dont really like Mal. Great player. But deserves a statue.

Just as long as they don't start putting union or soccer statues there!

Yeah, not sure on this one. He's done some great things for Rugby League, especially leading us to 8 straight Origin wins. But not sure if he's worthy of a Statue.

I tend to agree with Pete to some extent. Three statues should be about the limit, otherwise it'll start to get a bit ridiculous.

Wouldn't mind having a who's who of QLD Origin stars at the stadium tbh, as long as The King is always pride of place ofc.

They were always going to add more after Lockyer got one imo.

I would personally love to see the Greg Conescu or Hark Hohn statue. Right next to the Greg Dowling one.

They could celebrate his trip tackle in the statue.

Hahahaha ... I played for NQ in Isa against Valleys about 100 years ago and he reffed ... there was a couple of huge stinks. One he let the blue go on, our half took a tap and scored under the posts while the rest of us were throwing them. After the next one Wally walked off citing "hillbillies", hardly appropriate considering my ex-wife's boobs were the largest features around there. One for Diehard: Al McInnes was one tough wiry dude

Yeah, i thought they were going to have a "walk of fame" type thing with plaques. All the QLD SOO players.

I like Mal. As a player and as a bloke. Not so much as a politician though.

I can't agree with Mal ... he was a loud-mouthed Super League freak and he is still shooting it off about the 9's.

Hey, DH how's the hustings going ... I can't believe you didn't rise to my Valleys dig and that was Paul Laffin who scored (in fact twice).
