The RFL are partnering with Rileys Sports Bars to create a network of nationwide hubs where fans can see Super League, Tetley’s Challenge Cup and Rugby League World Cup 2013 matches live in all their 70 venues across Britain.
The Sports Bars, which are best known for their snooker and pool activities, will be throwing their doors open to thousands of Rugby League fans spread across the country and creating local community hubs where the fans can meet regularly to watch and discuss Rugby League and its competitions.
RFL Director of Participation David Gent welcomed the development: “This is great news for our participants across the whole of the country.
“We often receive requests from fans, players and club members asking where they could watch Rugby League in their local area. The answer now is at one of 70 sites which will be based at Rileys Sports bars, from Aberdeen to Plymouth and Cardiff to Colchester.
“We are expecting Rugby League communities to spring up based at the clubs and these will be regular TV viewers, fans who attend our games and players from the national network of Rugby League clubs.
“In addition it will be further regular and great exposure for the game to a potentially new audience.”
Peter Hooker, Commercial and Operations Director for Riley’s Sports Bars said: “We are delighted that the RFL have chosen to partner with Rileys to offer Rugby League fans a home for them to both establish a local community and watch Rugby League.
‘Riley’s chain of Sports Bars offers customers the best sports viewing proposition, in association with Sky, on our 3m HD quality screens and stunning surround sound. Our unique proposition of pool, snooker, darts zones, as well our new gaming concept plus a great bar and food offering make Riley’s not just the right place to watch Rugby League, but a great sporting environment whilst you are watching all the top games.
“Over the last few years we have established ourselves as the place to go to watch football, boxing and other sports such as American football and F1 and will be looking to build the offering to Rugby League fans over the next months and years.
