Australia wins women's, students and police rugby league world cups
THE COURIER-MAIL
AUSTRALIA'S Jillaroos have won the women's rugby league World Cup at Headingley to end New Zealand's domination of the tournament.
The Kiwis had won the previous three women's tournaments but with Samantha Hammond and Jenni Sue Hoepper starring, Australia won the final 22-12.
Coach Paul Dyer said the entire Jillaroos squad of 23 had contributed throughout the Cup.
``It feels amazing, all the hard work the girls have put in leading up to this World Cup has paid off,'' Dyer
The win was even sweeter for Dyer as New Zealand had beaten the Jillaroos only a couple of days earlier in a group game.
``We had a few players rested and some niggling injures in that game but that meant we came out confident today because we had those girls back,'' he said.
``We did a good job on New Zealand today and I am really proud of the girls, it was an amazing effort.''
