Default Origin star Ferguson under investigation

Police are investigating an alleged incident involving NSW State of Origin winger Blake Ferguson at a Cronulla bar on Sunday night.

The Canberra star was out with former Raiders teammate Josh Dugan, who was celebrating his recall to the NSW side for game two in Brisbane next week.

Both players were present when the Blues went into camp in Sydney on Monday morning but were taken up in a lift with a team official for a meeting with coach Laurie Daley.

Daley later emerged to speak to the media.

"We have been made aware of an allegation and have been in contact with the NRL's integrity unit," Daley said reading from a prepared statement.

"We will continue to operate with the police investigation.

"Josh Dugan was with Blake at the time, but there has been no allegations made against him and we will update you as the matter continues."

Police revealed they'd already made preliminary inquiries.

"Police from Miranda Local Area Command are investigating an alleged incident at a licensed premises in Cronulla that occurred about 10.30pm last night," a NSW police spokesman said.

"Police have reviewed CCTV from the location and have interviewed a number of people.

"However, investigations into the matter are continuing."

The alleged incident occurred at 2230 Restaurant and Bar in Cronulla Mall.

The licensee, Scott Matteson, confirmed both Ferguson and Dugan were at the venue.

"We got a request later in the night from police for some footage in relation to an alleged assault, which was provided to police," Matteson told AAP.

Matteson said he was unaware what the allegation involved but added there were about 70 people in the bar at the time.

"I was there. I wasn't in the vicinity of it but I was at the bar," he said.

The 23-year-old Ferguson has had a history of disciplinary problems during his career.

He was suspended by the Raiders earlier this season, fined $10,000 and ordered to undergo counselling after a drinking session with Dugan, who was sacked shortly after and has since resumed his career at St George Illawarra.

If either player is involved they need immediate counselling & to be taken off the drink for the rest of their careers...

Slide Josh Morris out to Wing 'n slip Jamal into Centre? With that said, are the Blues even considering Jamal at this stage?

I wouldn't mind Merritt having a crack but his defence will be exposed in origin. QLD will direct all the traffic towards him.

The end of another career, bad for NSW but tragic for the Raiders.

Stood down indefinitely & so he should be , could be a sexual assault charge coming up but he did expos? himself to a girl & it was caught on camera , Dugan is not involved but neither should be drinking ever again..

UPDATE: POLICE have charged NSW Origin winger Blake Ferguson with indecent assault tonight following a complaint made against him by a 23-year-old woman after an alleged incident at a Cronulla nightclub.

Ferguson has been granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Court on July 16.

A media release from NSW Police reads:

"Police from Miranda Local Area Command (LAC) have charged a man with indecent assault over an alleged incident at licensed premises in Cronulla yesterday.

"Police have been told a 23-year-old ACT man allegedly indecently assaulted a woman, also aged 23, while inside a nightclub on Cronulla Street about 10.30pm yesterday (Sunday).

"The woman immediately reported the incident to Cronulla Police and an investigation was initiated.

"Detectives from Miranda Local Area Command viewed CCTV vision and spoke with a number of people.

"Shortly before 5pm today (Monday), a 23-year-old man attended Waverley Police Station where he was arrested.

"The man has now been charged with one count of indecent assault; he was granted conditional bail to appear in Waverley Local Court on 16 July 2013."

Ferguson was tonight stood down from State of Origin II and had his playing registration suspended by the NRL.

A release from the NRL tonight read
    :

Ferguson will not take part in the second State of Origin game and the NRL will reserve its decision on when he may be able to resume playing until it is in a position to assess any further relevant facts with the Canberra Raiders and the NRL Integrity Unit.

?The fans do not want to see the game tarnished and neither do the players,? NRL Chief Executive, Mr Dave Smith, said today.

?It?s time for people to understand that the game isn?t going to accept this sort of behaviour.

?The first step in Blake?s case is to make a clear call in relation to Origin and tomorrow we will consult with the Raiders to determine the minimum period we would look at in terms of suspension.

?We have worked closely with both the NSWRL and the Canberra Raiders during this process and there remains genuine concern for the welfare of the player.

?We will offer every support to address any issues but there also has to be a clear deterrent.?

At 4.45pm, Ferguson was seen walking into Waverley police station, accompanied by his lawyer Paul McGirr and two supporters. He was wearing a grey suit.

Ferguson had been with former Raiders teammate Josh Dugan at 2230 Restaurant and Bar in Cronulla Mall when the alleged incident occurred around 10:30pm. No allegations have been made against Dugan.

Both players were at the Blues camp in Sydney this morning and were taken up in a lift with a team official for a meeting with coach Laurie Daley.

Daley later emerged to speak to the media and confirm the investigation.

"We have been made aware of an allegation and have been in contact with the NRL's integrity unit,'' Daley said, reading from a prepared statement.

"We will continue to cooperate with the police investigation.

"Josh Dugan was with Blake at the time, but there has been no allegations made against [Dugan] and we will update you as the matter continues."

The Blues released a statement, saying: "NSW team management has been made aware of an alleged incident involving Blake Ferguson last night prior to his arrival in the NSW Origin camp today.

"NSW team management is treating the matter seriously and will continue to work with the NRL Integrity Unit, the Raiders and the police to determine exactly what has happened."

Raiders CEO Don Furner said the club was made aware of the issue by the NRL.
