TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS v SUNSHINE COAST SEA EAGLES
Piggabeen Sports on Sunday, May 26* (Live on Channel 9)
    Referee: Tim Rutherford
Head to Head: Tweed 6 Sunshine Coast 2
    Twitter: #intrustsupercup #ISC #THSvSCSE

The Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles will travel to Piggabeen on Sunday, desperate to get their season back on track with a win against Tweed Heads. The Sunshine Coast have lost their past six games in a row after the starting the season strongly with two wins from three games. Although still inconsistent, Tweed Heads have fared better this season and won their round 10 match against the Central Queensland Capras. They will be looking to build on their four wins so far in front of their home crowd. In team news, young half Michael Burgess comes into the Tweed side at five-eighth for the home side, with Beau Henry out with a shoulder injury. Burgess recently helped the Gold Coast Vikings claim the South East Queensland Chairman?s Challenge. Chris Binge will move to lock. For the Sea Eagles, Jye Ballinger makes his return from a broken hand, taking the place of Nick Paterson, who is unavailable because of personal commitments. Tweed Heads winger Tom Merritt ? who has been named on the wing for this weekend?s match ? played his 50th Cup game last weekend, following his late inclusion into the side.

QRL Media tips: Tweed Heads by 6. The Sea Eagles have their backs to the wall and will put in a spirited performance, but the Seagulls should have too much experience and will want to win at home.

Seagulls score big win over Sea Eagles

It was a mixed weekend for the iSelect Titans feeder clubs with Tweed Heads Seagulls scoring a big win over Sunshine Coast but Burleigh suffering a heavy loss to Mackay.

On the back of a near flawless first half performance the Seagulls ran out convincing winners 44-24 over the Sea Eagles in their round 11 Intrust Super Cup clash at Piggabeen oval.

Running into the breeze in the first half, Tweed were first to score through prop Josh Coyle barging over next to the posts, before a Sunshine Coast error just metres out from their own line ended with a try to Seagulls fullback Shaun Carney to put Tweed out to a 12-nil lead early on.

The rest of the first half was largely one way traffic as tries to Blair, Binge, Hijaziand debutant Michael Burgess on the back of some brilliant play from the Tweed halves had the home side flying at 34-0 at the main break.

Whatever Sea Eagles coach David Cordwell said in the sheds had thedesired effect, as a renewed Sunshine Coast scored sixteen points in the first eight minutes of the second half to raise hopes of a miracle comeback.

However an intercept try to Tweed flyer Ali Hijazi against the run of play in the 54th minute and a disallowed four pointersoon after ended the Sea Eagles slim chances, with the home side eventually winning by a comfortable margin.

In the winning sheds Tweed coach Aaron Zimmerle was excited by his side?s strong showing singling out debutant and Man of the Match five-eighth Michael Burgess for special praise.

?Michael?s a kid that I have a lot of time for and I was lucky enough to coach him in the Colts? said Zimmerle.

?I always knew he was good enough?it?s always just been about waiting for the right opportunity.?

?Today he got that and grabbed it with both hands.?

Elsewhere Tweed captain Matt King put in his usual whole hearted performance, whilst the electric MarminBarba looked dangerous deputising for injured fullback Shaun Carney in the second half.

It was a different story for the Bears, who suffered a 42-24 loss at the hands of the Mackay Cutters at Pizzey Park on Sunday.

Lapses at the back end of each half cost the Bears in what was a closer contest than the final score line suggested.

In a rapid fire opening twenty minutes captain James Stuart scored a try and Steve Michaels bagged a double.

With the Cutters also scoring three tries of their own it was 16-all after just 20 minutes.

The tries didn?t flow as easily for either side after that but two Mackay tries in four minutes shortly before halftime put the Bears in a difficult position heading into the second half.

Burleigh spent much of the second half deep in Mackay territory and Dan Kerr managed to pick up a double, but in the end the Bears couldn?t make up for the damage done by their brief lapse late in the first half.

Two tries in the final five minutes saw the final margin blow out to 18.

?Like in every game this year we competed, but today showed us the difference between the top half of the competition and the bottom half of the competition. Lapses in concentration get punished and they?ve punished ours today,? Bears coach Carl Briggs said.

?We?ve more than matched them - we opened them up a lot of times to be honest ? but you?ve got to defend as well and at times we didn?t do that well enough today.

?The tries that separated us at the end of the day came down to our own lapses in concentration.?

Briggs praised the performance of Darren Griffiths who was outstanding in the front row against his former club.

Next Sunday the Bears hit the road up to Dolphin Oval to take on ninth placed Redcliffe whie the Seagulls take on Norths Devils.

TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS 44 (Ali Hijazi 2, Shaun Carney, Michael Burgess, Josh Coyle, Matt King, Cory Blair, Chris Binge tries; Brad Lees 6 goals) def SUNSHINE COAST SEA EAGLES 24 (Callum Klein 2, Kevin McKenzie, Rowan Klein, Jordan Meads tries; Ryan Hansen 2 goals) at Piggabeen Sports.

MACKAY CUTTERS 42 (Curtis Rona 2, Liam Taylor, Bureta Faraimo, Tyson Martin, Clint Greenshields, Kalifa Faifai Loa, Dean Webster tries Liam Taylor 5 goals) def BURLEIGH BEARS 24 (Steve Michaels 2, Dan Kerr 2, James Stuart tries J Rankin 2 goals)
