Titans help Bears to victory

iSelect Gold Coast Titans trio Mark Ioane, Steve Michaels and Anthony Don helped feeder club Burleigh Bears score a 38-20 win over the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles on Sunday.

Fellow feeder club Tweed Heads Seagulls also scored a win in Round 10 of the Intrust Super Cup, with Titans playmaker Beau Henry scoring two tries and kicking two goals in an 18-14 victory over the Central Queensland Capras.

At Pizzey Park, Burleigh looked refreshed and focused coming off the bye and with a number of key players returning to the side.

Ioane in particular shone in a dominant front row performance in his first game for the Bears since making his NRL debut against the Warriors two weeks ago.

?His attitude is superb, he?s willing to learn and he?s a pleasure to coach,? Bears coach Carl Briggs said of Ioane.

?He?s a guy that can pump out 30 minutes for me each half and it?s not a matter of 20 minutes high intensity, 10 minutes of less intensity. He keeps his intensity level high for the entire time he is out there.

?I?ve said all along that he?s the best front rower running around in the Queensland Cup.?

From the opening whistle the Bears made their intentions clear with captain James Stuart crossing for a try in just the 3rd minute.

Tries to Jordan Rankin, Anthony Don and Dan Kerr followed in an awesome opening 25 minutes that set up the win.

The Bears did lapse briefly before the break with the Sea Eagles managing to score back-to-back tries, but a try on the buzzer to Stuart gave Burleigh an 18 point lead at the break.

The second half wasn?t as crisp as the early exchanges for the Bears as errors started to creep in, but they were always comfortable and the result was never in doubt.

Don picked up a second and Ioane charged over for a well deserved try to extend the lead, while two late tries to the Sea Eagles brought the final score to 38-20.

Next weekend the Bears return to Pizzey Park to face competition heavyweights Mackay in what will be an acid test for the home side.

The Bears were never seriously threatened this week but there were patches where they briefly drifted in and out of the contest.

?In that first half we were totally dominant for 30 minutes, but then there was a five minute period where they came back and stung us,? Briggs said.

?We?ll address those five minute lapses this week. Mackay is a big challenge for us but I?m sure we can rise to it, especially being at home.?
