SLUMPED in a chair inside the Gold Coast dressingroom, an ambulance parked outside the doors, Albert Kelly refused to concede.
He has been through so much drama, so many setbacks he knows exactly how to confront the ills of fate.
"It is not a matter of how long I'm out, it is a matter of how much work I have to put in to get right," Kelly said.
"I don't know when I'm coming back but my mindset is 'I'm playing next week'.
"I don't want to miss a game. I just like playing football.
"You can be on top of your game one week and then there's an injury ... just like that."
Kelly strained the medial ligament in his right knee when Broncos hooker Andrew McCullough fell on him awkwardly as he dived over the line to score in the 73rd minute at Robina's Skilled Park.
Medial ligaments typically require four to six weeks on the sidelines but Titans medical staff are hoping he will only miss three games.
"They said it could have been worse, so happy days for me," Kelly said without smiling.
"I don't want to let the boys down. I want to get back out there.
"I broke this leg (in 2011 while playing for Cronulla Sharks) and jarred it before too.
"You never know, I might be back next week, a miracle could happen.
"But I'm just going to take it on the chin now ...
We do have a lot of depth there in Beau Henry and Jordan Rankin and if I'm not there I'm sure they can handle the job."
Henry and Rankin have a chance to push their cases in Intrust Super Cup games this weekend.
Rankin's Burleigh Bears face the Norths Devils at Bishop Park today.
Kelly had starred for the Titans in their solid first half, scoring a sensational 60m solo try that featured two devastating fends and a Brett Mullins-like chip-kick.
The Titans expect to have the services of five-eighth Aidan Sezer, ruled out of Friday night's clash with a minor hamstring strain, for next Sunday's round 6 home clash against the Parramatta Eels.
Sezer, who had not missed a game for the Titans previously, said he was never going to risk further damage.
"A hammy's a pretty severe thing and you don't want to aggravate it," he said.
"I'd rather miss the one (game) and come back fine the next week."
