Rugby League Immortal and champion halfback Andrew Johns has signed on with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles as a specialist coach and club ambassador for 2013.
The 38-year-old will work exclusively with the Sea Eagles across all grades in a permanent part-time capacity, sharing his wealth of experience and mentoring up-and-coming players.
His role will also include working closely with Geoff Toovey, his coaching staff and the NRL squad, running junior rugby league clinics, supporting the club?s Membership drives and promoting club initiatives.
Sea Eagles General Manager, David Perry said securing Johns? services is a huge coup.
?Joey is recognised as one of the greatest rugby league players of all time and to be able to draw on his expertise exclusively will give our club an edge,? Perry said.
?He?s highly regarded by our players, staff and the wider NRL community, and we?re really looking forward to welcoming a professional of his calibre to our staff.?
Johns said he welcomed having an exclusive association with the Sea Eagles.
?What?s really exciting is working with young players who aspire to become NRL players, as well as having an important involvement with the NRL squad,? he said.
Johns said having worked closely with halves Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran in the past had been a great experience.
?They are smart players, with huge potential,? he said. ?I?m looking forward to working with Geoff Toovey and his team to fine tune certain aspects that will hopefully continue Manly?s success.?
The former Australian and NSW captain added being involved in an ambassadorial role with the Sea Eagles was something he was greatly looking forward to, especially as he is a Northern Beaches resident.
Head Coach Geoff Toovey said he?s looking forward to working with his former on-field rival.
?Joey?s helped us in previous years but it?s great to have him on board now in a more permanent role,? Toovey said.
?His technical expertise and knowledge of the game will be invaluable to us.?
Johns will start work with the club later this month.
