Myles claims Paul Broughton Medal
Jetstar Gold Coast Titans forward Nate Myles has tonight capped a stellar debut season for the club by taking out the 2012 Paul Broughton Medal at the sixth annual Titans Awards Night at Jupiters Hotel & Casino.
Just 48 hours after being named in the Australian Kangaroos side to play New Zealand in the end-of-season Test match in Townsville next Saturday night, Myles was crowned the Titans? Player of the Year by a clear-cut margin of eight points.
Myles led the points tally when it went behind closed doors after Round 18 and the tough forward went on with the job over the final eight rounds of the season to finish on 26 points, ahead of Queensland Maroons teammate Ashley Harrison (18 pts), fullback William Zillman (16 pts) and NSW and Australian representative Greg Bird (15 pts).
The accolade adds to the 27-year-old?s long list of achievements for the 2012 season, including:
* the Wally Lewis Medal for Player of the State of Origin series;
* the Dally M Representative Player of the Year after helping Queensland to a record seventh straight State of Origin series victory and;
* the Dally M Second Rower of the Year.
Myles also proved to be the fan?s favourite at tonight?s end-of-season celebration, also claiming the XXXX Fan Player of the Year award, the Members? Most Valuable Player award and the Gold Coast Bulletin Reader?s Choice Award.
While Myles dominated the night overall, several of the club?s young guns did not go empty handed, with 21-year-old five-eighth Aidan Sezer taking out the Rookie of the Year award and hooker Matt Srama, 21, winning the Clubman of the Year award.
Winger David Mead was the inaugural recipient of ?The Preston?, named in honour of former Titans champion Preston Campbell for the player that shows a number of standout qualities such as consistent work ethic, positive attitude towards every game and a strong commitment to effort and determination.
Young playmaker Jordan Rankin received the Try of the Year award for finishing off a great team try in Round 2 against the Canberra Raiders at Skilled Park which involved contributions from many of his teammates.
Prop Brenton Lawrence received the Community Award for his outstanding efforts off the field for the club in 2012, which included organising his own fundraiser for Autism.
In the NYC Under-20s award categories, hooker Sam Irwin claimed both the NYC Player of the Year and NYC Player?s Player awards.
