Port Adelaide told that an Australian man who died in Las Vegas is believed to be a Power player

Port Adelaide have been informed that an Australian man who has died in Las Vegas is believed to be one of their players.

The player was one of seven Power players who had left for Las Vegas after the club's best-and-fairest night on Friday night.

It is understood the player fell from a balcony at the Flamingo Hotel.

Port Adelaide Football Club is yet to officially confirm the identity of the player.

Club spokesman Andrew Rutter said the player's identity may not be released for "a couple of hours" due to the club trying to contact an important family member in the "northern hemisphere".

But Port Adelaide players have already been called together for a briefing on the incident.

A spokesperson for the Flamingo Hotel said in a statement that a man had been found unresponsive at about 5.40pm local time (10.40am EST).

"(He was found) on the south driveway of the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas," the spokesperson said.

"He was transported to the University Medical Center of Las Vegas, where he was pronounced deceased."

She said Nevada's Clark County Coroner's Office was investigating the incident.

Port Adelaide?s statement confirmed that investigations were continuing into the nature of the death.

"The Port Adelaide Football Club has been informed that an Australian man who has died in Las Vegas is believed to be one of its players," it read.

"At this point, the club is unable to confirm the identity of the player involved in this tragedy as family members are still being informed.

"A group from the Port Adelaide playing group left Adelaide on Saturday for a holiday. The club is in contact with members of the travelling group and is working with U.S. authorities while investigations continue.

"Port Adelaide general manager (football) Peter Rohde is on his way to the United States to be with the players. The club has also made contact with its other players still in Australia."

The AFL community has been rocked by the incident, as has the player?s close-knit football community.

It is known that while his immediate family has been informed about the death, his wider family is still being informed.

Several players have left the club at Alberton after being informed of the news.

They include David Rodan, Jay Schulz, Daniel Stewart, Troy Chaplin, Steven Salopek, Cam O'Shea and Jarrad Irons.

Former Port Adelaide football operations manager Rob Snowdon, who is seeking a spot on the board, has also arrived at the club on Monday.

There are three other AFL teams in Las Vegas at the moment.
