    Burleigh’s Round Fourteen Colts match on Saturday against the Northern Pride saw Cameron Brown record three try assists, all from kicks, the first of which came in just the 3rd minute when he put in a short grubber which front rower Iszac Fa’asuamaieaui dived in to score just before the ball went dead in goal.

    Cameron Brown’s second try assist came in the 60th minute when he put in a chip kick to the right wing which Brent Barnes took on the full with the winger then diving over to score in the right corner.

    In the 35th minute when from the right side of the field twenty five metres out, Cameron Brown kicked back towards the posts. Samuel Shannon chased the ball through taking the ball on the full three metres and crashed over.

    Cameron Brown also threw the last pass for Tristian Powell’s 78th minute try.

    On the weekend for Nerang Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki started at right centre in Round Thirteen of the GCRL U18 Division One competition against the Helensvale Hornets, scoring a great long range try as well as recording a try assist.

    Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki scored in the 25th minute after a great break from just fifteen metres out from Nerang five eight Arama Hau who after breaking the line passed to his right to Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki who ran twenty metres out to crash over three metres in from the right corner.

    Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki’s try assist came in the 58th minute when after receiving the ball from a Nerang scrum win, Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki ran around the Helensvale left sided defensive line racing down the right touchline before off-loading to his inside to send Hasley McDonald away to score from thirty five metres out.

    Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki’s strong attacking match starting in the 18th minute when he received the ball from a Nerang scrum win ten metres from his own line and once again ran around the Helensvale left sided defence running down the right touchline with Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki initially being brought down near the halfway mark but he was not held and then Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki got to his feet and made another twenty metres downfield.

    Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki made another line break in the 28th minute when he reached back to take possession from a Arama Hau off-load and make forty metres.

    Taniela Mapusua-Lotaki was also good defensively in the match including in the 11th minute when he chased thorugh a Nerang attacking kick to tackle the Helensvale fullback in goal.

    Burleigh’s Tuvalli Khan-Pereira on Saturday in the Colts competition started at right centre in Round Fourteen against the Northern Pride with Tuvalli Khan-Pereira making two line breaks.

    In the 30th minute Tuvalli Khan-Pereira made a thirty five metre line break that including breaking four tackles down the right side of the field to get within two metres of the halfway mark.

    Tuvalli Khan-Pereira’s second line break came in the 58th minute when he made a twenty metre line break from a Burleigh scrum win before being tackled near the halfway mark.

    For Burleigh on Saturday afternoon in the Colts competition against the Northern Pride Titans contracted Isaac Matalavea-Booth dropped back to come off the bench but still was one of the Bears try scorers in their 46 – 0 victory.

    Isaac Matalavea-Booth scored in the 32nd minute when he ran onto the ball from nine metres out, beating one defender to get the ball down next to the left upright.

    Interestingly the match against the Northern Pride saw Isaac Matalavea-Booth kick for touch for Burleigh when they received a penalty and heck he has a big boot on him!

    On Saturday afternoon Syris Schmidt played his last First XV game for TSS in Round Nine of the GPS competition against Gregory Terrace with Syris Schmidt running out with the TSS First XV side as vice-captain and starting the match at fly half.

    Syris Schmidt was very good in his last ever GPS First XV match including kicking two conversions and a 67th minute penalty goal.

    Syris Schmidt’s tactical kicking was outstanding in the match with a long accurate kick of Syris Schmidt coming just 19 seconds into the match. The in the 11th minute Syris Schmidt put in a long raking left foot kick from just thirty metres out from his own line with the ball ending up in the Gregory Terrace in-goal.

    Just a minute or so later, another long raking kick of Syris Schmidt’s carried sixty metres on the full and bounced forward another fifteen metres before the Gregory Terrace fullback could get back to retrieve.

    Syris Schmidt added another long kick in the 45th minute when he kicked the ball from fifteen metres out from his own line with the ball to be collected by the Gregory Terrace fullback twenty metres out from his own line. After the Gregory Terrace then kicked the ball back to Syris Schmidt, a good old fashioned kicking duel took place with Syris Schmidt ending the duel on top with a raking kick from inside his own twenty that went into touch on the full twenty metres out from the Gregory Terrace line.

    Then in the 53rd minute with TSS under pressure Syris Schmidt put in a kick from just two metres out from his own line with the ball going into touch forty three metres downfield.

    It was not just tactical kicking where Syris Schmidt excelled in the match. In the 46th minute Syris Schmidt put in a great left foot grubber kick into the in-goal to the right side of the field with Gregory Terrace forced to ground the ball.

    Syris Schmidt also displayed quick hands with a great catch and pass in the 57th minute for Blake Raymond to score in the right corner. Syris Schmidt also ran the ball well including a good sniping run in the second minute after receiving the ball from a TSS line out win near halfway.

    Defensively Syris Schmidt made a strong tackle in the 4th minute with a great front on tackle after Gregory Terrace ran the ball off a scrum win with Syris Schmidt’s initial contact forcing the ball loose.

    Titans contracted Nicholas Hilton started the final round of the 2021 GPS First XV School Boy Rugby season, being Round Nine against Gregory Terrace at No. 8, a match that say fellow Titans contracted players Kaleb Ngamanu and Syris Schmidt play their last ever First XV game for TSS.

    Nicholas Hilton was at his aggressive best during the match, including probably the best play of the match when in the 26th minute Nicholas Hilton charged directly through the middle of a ruck, totally destroying it and forcing a knock on by the Gregory Terrace halfback who was just picking up the ball from the back of the ruck when Nicholas Hilton destroyed it.

    Nicholas Hilton did something similar in the 34th minute when once again with Gregory Terrace on the attack Nicholas Hilton smashed through the centre of a ruck forcing a knock on by the Gregory Terrace acting half.

    The 37th minute saw Nicholas Hilton a key figure in a TSS try with he led a TSS rolling maul from a line-out with TSS rumbling forward to score.

    Nicholas Hilton also recorded a 56th minute line break where he made thirty metres before off-loading through centre field.

    To round out his match, Nicholas Hilton made a critical diving tackle from behind in the 62nd minute on the Gregory Terrace open side flanker who had broken through the TSS line from twelve metres and looked set to score bar the great tackle from Nicholas Hilton.

    Titans Development contract holder Tony Francis start on the left wing for Burleigh in Saturday’s Round Fourteen Colts match against the Northern Pride and scored in the 12th minute from six metres out after good work on his inside by Damon Somerville from a Burleigh scrum win with Damon Somerville giving Tony Francis an easy run to the line.

    The match also saw Tony Francis do some good work running the ball out of Burleigh territory including in the 31st minute when he made a strong run from one side of the field to the other making twenty five metres and breaking four tackles.

    Then in the 48th minute, Tony Francis made a strong run of fifteen metres after running out of dummy half.

    Titans contracted Arama Hau continued at five eight and captain for Nerang on Saturday in Round Thirteen of the GCRL U18 Division One competition against the Helensvale Hornets, recording two try assists as well as kicking a conversion for Nerang’s final try of the match with a solid left foot strike from just to the right of the uprights.

    Arama Hau’s opening try assist came in the 18th minute when he moved into dummy half eight metres from the line. After moving subtly to his right he passed in the same direction to put one of his second rowers over next to the right upright.

    Arama Hau added a second try assist in the 25th minute when he received the ball still eighty five metres out from the try line to the right of a Roosters scrum win. Arama Hau initially stepped off his right foot and then dummied in the same direction before stepping off his right foot once again to beat two defenders as break through the Helensvale line before drawing the Helensvale fullback and pass to his right to put Taniela Lotaki over in the right corner.

    Arama Hau also made a line break in the 28th minute when he ran the ball down a short right blindside making forty metres before once again off-loading to send Taniela Lotaki forty metres further upfield.

    Arama Hau made yet another line break in the 53rd minute when he made a winding twenty five metre run that included four dummies and four tackle breaks to get the ball to ten metres inside Helensvale territory.

    Arama Hau’s strong match kicked off in the 13th minute when he made fifteen metres after running to the left after a Roosters scrum before off-loading to his left near the halfway mark.

    Arama Hau off-loaded once again in the 44th minute when he ran down the left side of the field before producing a right arm off-load whilst in contact with two defenders.

    Arama Hau was really showcasing all of his skills against Helensvale and showed off another in the 28th minute when he put in a left foot grubber kick from twenty metres out into the in-goal to his left with the Helensvale fullback subsequently being trapped in-goal.

    Titans contracted Sam McIntyre started for Burleigh at left second row in the rescheduled Round Thirteen Colts match on Saturday against the Sunshine Coast Falcons as well as in Round Fourteen against the Northern Pride with Sam McIntyre involved in the opening tackle of the match from the kick-off.

    The match also saw Sam McIntyre have a running battle with the Northern Pride five eight with Sam McIntyre winning the battle after the Northern Pride five eight was sent to the sin bin for ten minutes for taking a tackle on Sam McIntyre too far.

    Sam McIntyre’s initial contribution to Burleigh’s 46 – 0 victory came in the 15th minute with a great fifteen metre run to get within a metre of the try line. Sam McIntyre was immediately to his feet quickly to play the ball with Lachlan Adamson scoring from dummy half.

    The opening minutes of the second half saw Sam McIntyre make another strong run and he then took another good hit-up in the 48th minute and being awarded a penalty against the Northern Pride five eight. Sam McIntyre then charged onto the ball from the penalty restart and that is when the five eight was sent to the sin bin.

    Sam McIntyre continued to make ground in the 53rd minute with a fifteen metre run out of his own twenty metre area and then in the 56th minute Sam McIntyre made a twenty metre down the left channel before off-loading to his five eight.

    With the Burleigh GCRL First Grade side having a bye over the weekend, Titans Development contract holder Tristian Powell started from the bench for the Burleigh Hastings Deering’s Colts side in their Round Fourteen match against the Northern Pride with Tristian Powell easily as good as any forward on the field.

    Tristian Powell scored a deserved try in the 78th when he charged over from five metres out on the right side of the field, spinning counter clock to get the ball down ten metres in from the right corner post after receiving a good short pass from Cameron Brown.

    Tristian Powell came onto the field to play at right second row with his first run in the 22nd minute accounting for twelve metres to get the ball out to his own forty metre mark. Tristian Powell made another strong run in the 34th minute from the kick-off to Isaac Matalavea-Booth’s try to get the ball to thirty metres away from his own line.

    Titans contracted Kaleb Ngamanu played his last First XV game for TSS on Saturday afternoon in Round Nine of the GPS Rugby competition against Gregory Terrace with Kaleb Ngamanu leading the TSS First XV side onto the field as captain and starting the match at outside centre.

    The match saw Kelab Ngamanu record a try assist in the 59th minute when after Gregory Terrace lost the ball, Kaleb Ngamanu tracked back to swoop on it and after racing twelve metres downfield Kelab Ngamanu put TSS fullback Jey Gray into a gap to race away to score the match sealing try.

    After a tough opening thirty minutes, Kaleb Ngamanu came into his own in the 35th minute with a surging twenty metre on the right side of the field to get the ball into Gregory Terrace territory.

    Then in the 39th minute Kaleb Ngamanu was at it again with another run that accounted for twenty metres with Kaleb Ngamanu beating three tackles. Kaleb Ngamanu added another strong run in the 41st minute with the run starting from inside his own in-goal area with Kaleb Ngamanu getting the ball fifteen metres into the field of play with the combination of left foot and right foot steps of Kaleb Ngamanu’s beating four would be defenders.

    Kaleb Ngamnu was always been known as an outstanding defender and his final match reinforced that when he made a great low tackle in the 49th minute near mid-field on the charging Gregory Terrace No. 8.

    On Saturday Te Ahurei Epapara started at right second row for Burleigh in Round Fourteen of the GCRL U20 competition against Helensvale with Te Ahurei Epapara scoring for the Bears in just the 3rd minute of the match when he burst onto the ball on the right side of the field from twelve metres out to score fifteen metres in from the right corner post.

    Te Ahurei Epapara was immediately into the match as he made the opening tackle of the match after Burleigh had kicked off.

    Noah Gafa started at left second row for the Burleigh U20 side in Round Thirteen of the GCRL U20 competition on Saturday against the Helensvale Hornets scoring two tries in a dominant display.

    Noah Gafa scored the first of his two tries in the 40th minute when he charged through a gap from six metres out off a Thomas Neale pass.

    Noah Gafa added his second try in the 56th minute, once again off Thomas Neale pass, on that occasion from eighteen metres out with Noah Gafa veering to his left to round the Helensvale fullback once he had broken thourhg the Hornets main defensive line.

    Noah Gafa also made a 26th minute line break once again off a Thomas Neale pass when from forty metres out Noah Gafa surged through a gap on the left before getting the ball away to his left centre who was brought to ground three metres short of the try line.

    Jake Kearton started in the front row and captain in Round Round Thirteen of the GCRL U20 competition for Burleigh on Saturday afternoon against the Helensvale Hornets with Jake Kearton scoring an outstanding solo try in the 10th minute.

    Jake Kearton ran onto the ball to the right of the play the ball seventy five metres away from the try line and upon receipt of the ball immediately cut back to the area behind the play the ball splitting a gap between two defenders. Jake Kearton then showed very good speed to maintain a gap between himself and the Helensvale defenders chasing him from behind. As he approached the Helensvale fullback, Jake Kearton shaped to pass to his right and as soon as the fullback’s momentum shifted in that direction, Jake Kearton pulled the ball back in and raced to the line getting the ball down adjacent to the left upright.

    Titans contracted Seth Nikotemo started at right centre on Sunday morning for Runaway Bay in Round Thirteen of the GCRL U18 Division One competition against the Currumbin Eagles scoring one try and also making a line break.

    Seth Nikotemo scored in the 35th minute of the match when a heavy Runaway Bay tackle forced the ball loose on Seth Nikotemo’s side of the field. Seth Nikotemo went back and collected the dropped ball thirty metres from the line and as soon as he turned back towards the try line he was confronted by the Currumbin left winger who he quickly dispatched. Seth Nikotemo subsequently raced down the right touchline and dived over in the right corner.

    Seth Nikotemo’s line break came in the 13th minute of the match with Seth Nikotemo receiving the ball from a Runaway Bay scrum win forty two metres from the line. Seth Nikotemo was able to beat a number of defenders before off-loading to his right to his right centre.
