When junior dual sport athlete is mentioned I usually think of rugby league and rugby/touch but in the case of Gold Coast Rugby League 2021 Cyril Connell U16 Academy Squad member Jett Grimmond the sport other than rugby league is in fact baseball, a sport in which the Coombabah SHS student is also very talented.

The GC Rugby League U16 Cyril Connell Cup opponents will have to deal with the speed of Helensvale half Kyer Teika.

The speedster is also an outstanding touch player and in 2020 represented the SQBD Sharks at the U16 National Touch Championships, including scoring two tries in their 7-1 semi-final win over the SWQ Swans.

2021 Gold Coast Cyril Connell Cup squad member Lewis Symonds can be considered a multi-sport athlete that's for sure.

In addition to being a very good rugby league player, he is also a State level athlete in discuss, hammer throw and shot put and also has broken age records in weight lifting.

Runaway Bay second rower Max Murphy is no stranger to representative rugby league, representing the Gold Coast Vikings at the U13 and U14 levels in 2018 and 2019 respectively and in 2021 he will add being a member of the Gold Coast Rugby League Cyril Connell Cup squad to his resume.

Speed is an attribute that will not be lacking in the 2021 GCRL Cyril Connell Cup squad with Keebra Park Rugby League Academy student Tana Tuhaka in the squad.

In addition to previously representing the Gold Coast Vikings rugby league representative side Tana Tuhaka, late in 2020 played in the Noosa Rugby 7's tournament, with his side winning their Division and being co-captain.

Titans contracted young centre Caleb Hodges finished the initial portion of the NRL pre-season with the Titans yesterday and even though he is still Colts eligible in 2021, I expect that he will start the 2021 season as part of the Tweed Heads Seagulls Queensland Cup side, just like he did in 2020 before the season was cut short.

The local junior is yet another youngster progressing all of the way through the Titans Development Program.

It is always great to see a young junior progress all of the way to the NRL and that is what is on the verge of happening with Ben Liyou.

Ben Liyou initially linked with the Titans as a 13 year old (I was at Pizzey Park for his first appearance in a Titans jersey when he played for a Titans U14 side against Samoa) and has just finished the first five weeks of the NRL pre-season with the Titans NRL squad.

First identifying a talented young player as a 13 year old and then seeing him in the Titans NRL squad, now that is a through and through Junior Development System that the Titans have.

Some people seem to consider that hooker is not necessarily the strongest position for the Titans NRL squad, but one local junior who has spent time with the Titans NRL program this offseason is looking to change that in Ediq Ambrosyev.

Ediq Ambrosyev's first match for the Titans was as a 13 year old when he played left centre and scored two tries including an 80m intercept against a Toowoomba U14 selection at Pizzey Park. Ediq Ambrosyev actually spent a lot of his junior career as a fullback.

Now he is a stand out hooking prospect with speed and guile when running out of dummy half, a very good passing game to either side , a sound defender and a talker, I mean a real talker, I am sure that the young man could talk underwater!

The Titans NRL squad contains some powerful ball runners such as David Fifita and Tino, but a Casino RSM junior may very well join them in a season or two.

Solomon Torrens who played the 2020 season with the Tugun Seahawks has the size, speed and power to make an impact at the NRL level and in a sign of the high regard that the Titans hold him in, he finished the first half of the current NRL pre-season training with the Titans NRL squad.
