    Burleigh GCRL U13 Division One centre Sam Stephenson had a great 2019 season which saw him finish with 100 points from fifteen matches and finish second on the competitions try scoring list in the regular season.

    In only one game in the regular season being against Ormeau did Sam Stephenson not score in 2019, scoring twenty four tries in his other fourteen games for a strike rate of 160%. He also kicked two goals in Round One against Coomera to hit the 100 point on the season mark.

    Sam Stephenson recorded four tries in consecutive rounds against Ormeau and Southport as well as scoring a hat trick against Coomera mid-season.

    He also scored three doubles coming against Coomera in two matches and Ormeau with tries against Currumbin twice, Nerang, Runaway Bay twice and Ormeau accounting for the remainder of his tries.

    In 2018 in the GCRL U12 Division One competition Sam Stephenson recorded a 100% strike rate from fourteen matches.

    Southport centre Tyrel Laban had an impressive first season on the Gold Coast playing for the Tigers in three divisions.

    In the U13 Division One competition, he scored thirteen tries from just nine matches (144% strike rate), scoring in each one.

    He recorded doubles against Runaway Bay, Ormeau, Coomera twice and Currumbin and also scored against Runaway Bay, Currumbin and Burleigh in separate matches.

    Tyrel Laban played in two U14 Division One matches in 2019 as well as five U14 Division Two matches.

    He made his U14 Division One debut against Burleigh in June and also played against Mudgeeraba in late July.

    His U14 Division Two debut came also in June against Burleigh, in fact that weekend Tyrel Laban played in all three grades. His first U14 Division Two try came in his third match in that competition against Burleigh and he also followed that up with a try in his next match against Nerang.

    Ballina Seagulls flyer Lachlan Offley’s 2019 season can favourably be compared to anybody’s in the entire Group One Junior Rugby League competition and in Northern New South Wales more generally for that matter.

    For Ballina in the Group One U15 competition Lachlan Offley finished the season scoring in all of his ten matches and finishing as the competitions leading try scorer with twenty seven tries for an out of this world strike rate of 270%. Lachlan Offley also kicked seven conversions to finish as the competitions leading point’s scorer with 122.

    In addition to scoring five tries against Kyogle in June Lachlan Offley scored five hat tricks including in each of his first three 2019 Group One U14 matches against South Grafton, Casino RSM and Clarence Coast. Lachlan Offley added hat tricks against Clarence Coast and Lismore Marist Brothers later in the season.

    Lachlan Offley also scored a finals double against South Grafton and tries against Grafton in two spate matches.

    Lachlan Offley also played in five Group One U15 matches in 2019 and once again showcased his try scoring prowess scoring seven tries including a Grand Final double against Clarence Coast, unfortunately Ballina went down 14 – 10.

    In addition to his Grand Final double, Lachlan Offley also scored U15 doubles against Lismore Marist Brothers and Kyogle as well as scoring on his Group One U15 debut against Clarence Coast in May.

    In late 2019 Lachlan Offley started at fullback in all three of the Group One U14 representative sides matches at the New South Wales Country U14 Age Championships scoring on Day One against Maitland. On Day Two Lachlan Offley started at fullback in matches against Group 21 and Central Coast.

    To prove that his try scoring feats in 2019 were no fluke Lachlan Offley scored twenty one tries and kicked thirteen goals in Ballina in the 2018 Group One U13 competition to record 110 points.

    Ballina Seagulls Noah Waldock has recently been named in the Titans 2020 Group One Academy squad that will commence training in Ballina in Northern New South Wales next week.

    The 2018 New South Wales U12 representative continued his rise in the junior rugby league ranks in 2019 with a great season for Ballina in the Group One U13 competition finishing the season third on the try scoring list with thirteen tries from eleven matches (118%), second on the goal kicking tally (thirteen goals) and second overall from a points scoring perspective (seventy eight points).

    Noah Waldock had a great Round One scoring a hat trick and kicking a conversion against South Grafton and followed that up with a Round two double against Casino RSM. Noah Waldock added further doubles against Clarence Coast and Casino RSM later in the season as well as scoring in matches against Lismore Marist Brothers (three matches including finals) and Kyogle.

    From a goal kicking perspective, Noah Waldock kicked three goals against Lismore Marist Brothers and kicked two conversions in matches against Casino RSM, Clarence Coast and Grafton.

    IN 2019 Noah Waldock also played five matches in the Group One U14 competition making his debut in May against Clarence Coast. Noah Waldock played in the U13 match prior to all five of his U14 appearances this season.

    In 2018 Noah Waldock Scored thirty six points from seven U12 Group One matches scoring eight tries (114% strike rate) and kicking two goals. Six of his tries came from doubles against Lismore Marist Brothers, Casino RSM and Grafton.

    One of the most impressive young players in the 2019 Group One U13 competition was Clarence Coasts Tyrelle Waters who finished the season as the competitions equal leading try scorer with fifteen tries from just thirteen matches (115% strike rate). He also kicked two goals (against South Grafton and Casino RSM) to finish the 2019 season with a total points haul of 64.

    In 2018 Tyrelle Waters played in fourteen matches in the Group One U12 competition finishing with a 100% strike rate with fifteen tries. He also kicked three goals in finish the 2018 U12 Group One season with sixty six points. Included in his try scoring tally in 20178 were hat tricks against South Grafton and Ballina and two doubles against Lismore Marist Brothers.

    Tyrelle Waters was also one of Clarence Coast’s try scorers in the 2018 Group One U12 Grand Final as the Magpies defeated Lismore Marist Brothers in a 20 -18 thrilled with Tyrelle Waters starting the match in the second row.

    In 2018 Tyrelle Waters also played in one U13 match which came against Lismore Marist Brothers in late May.

    Joshua Buttenshaw had a solid season in the 2019 Group One U15 competition scoring six tries and kicking 18 goals (60 points in total) from the centre position for the Ballina Seagulls from just seven matches.

    Joshua Buttenshaw scored doubles against Casino RSM and Lismore Marist Brothers as well as scoring against Clarence Coast and Marist Brothers again.

    With the boot he kicked five in an early June match against Lismore Marist Brothers and kicked three goals on three occasions.

    Joshua Buttenshaw also played three U16.5 Group One matches in 2019 making his debut against Marist Brothers Blue in early June.

    In 2019 Joshua Buttenshaw played in the centres for the Group One U15 representative side at the NSW Country Age Championships in Port Macquarie starting all three of their matches in the centres and kicked eight conversions at the Championships including six conversions in his second match of Day One against Group 19. He also kicked two conversions on Day Two against Central Coast

    Beaudesert Kingfishers centre Matthew Hamblin had an impressive 2019 season in the GCRL U13 Division Two competition scoring 131 points from just 12 twelve matches, being an average of just under 11 points per game.

    He scored 17 tries, kicked 31 goals and a field goal which he kicked in Round One against Mudgeeraba.

    Matthew Hamblin scored four hat tricks over the course of the 2019 season, the first two coming in Rounds One and Two against Mudgeeraba and Ormeau respectively. He scored his other two hat tricks against Jimboomba and Mudgeeraba later in the season.

    He kicked seven goals in Round Two against Ormeau and kicked six in a late regular season match against Jimboomba.

    Matthew Hamblin had some big individual game tally’s in 2019 but none were bigger than in Round Two when he scored 26 points that included a hat trick and seven goals against the Ormeau Shearers

    After a season with the Newcastle Knights Jersey Flegg side it is great to see former Titans NYC player Isaac Lee back with the Marist Brothers Rams for 2020 in the NRRRL First Grade competition.

    Talented 17 year old second rower Simon Pratt will move to Lismore Marist Brothers for the 2020 NRRRL competition after spending this season with Casino RSM.

    South Grafton’s Nathan Weatherall was a point scorer for the Rebels in 2019 in both the Group One U13 and U14 competitions.

    In the U13 competition he finished with a try scoring strike rate of 117% from six matches and also kicked ten goals to finish with 48 points.

    Included in his seven tries were doubles against Casino RSM and Kyogle and tries against Grafton, Lismore Marist Brothers and Casino RSM.

    In three consecutive matches in June Nathan Weatherall kicked three goals in a match with those matches against Kyogle, Lismore Marist Brothers and Casino RSM.

    He also played in seven Group One U14 matches scoring against Ballina on debut and Clarence Coast and also kicked two goals in the Clarence Coast match.

    In his first season on the Gold Coast as well as his first at PBC as part of their Rugby League Sports Excellence Program fullback/centre Tylee Donovan had an interesting year playing for both PBC and the Currumbin Eagles.

    The former Wauchope Blue and Newcastle Knight U16 Harold Matthews squad member (he missed the 2018 HM competition proper with concussion but did play in a number of trials against Cronulla and Manly) played in five matches for the Currumbin Eagles U18 Division two side scoring doubles in consecutive matches in June against Southport and Runaway Bay.

    He also played in one U18 Division One match which was in June against eventual premiers Burleigh.

    2019 also saw Tylee Donovan take part in the 2019 Koori Knockout Rugby League Championships held in Tuggerah on the Central Coast of NSW, playing in the U17 Division for the Kempsey Sharks team alongside fellow PBC student Troy Duckett.

    Playing in the centres Tylee Donovan had a successful opening day with Kempsey who defeated both Koori Brothers United 28 - 0 and 2829 CAB Next Gen Coonamble 24 - 0 and progress to the semi-finals. In the semi-final Kempsey were up against previously undefeated Wijadjuri United, but were successful once again winning 20 - 12 to progress the Grand Final.

    In the Grand Final Kempsey upset the Western Koori Eels side 12-10 to become 2019 Under 17s Koori Knockout Champions.
    In 2018 Tylee Donovan played for the New South Wales Indigenous U16 side against the Western Australia Pirates in Sydney.

    Tylee Donovan signed with the Newcastle Knights as a 15 year old after also training with the Brisbane Broncos Academy and has been playing rugby league since he was just 6 years old all with Wauchope before his move to the Gold Coast.

    In 2020 Tylee Donovan will once again be part of the PBC Rugby League Excellence Program and also once again play for Currumbin in the GCRL U18 competition.

    Mudgeeraba Redbacks winger Cade Kelhear proved difficult for opposing teams in the GCRL U13 Division Two to keep away from the try line in 2019 finishing as the competitions leading try scorer with 21 tries from 14 matches (150% strike rate).

    He scored four tries in a match on three occasions against Beaudesert in Round One and also against Ormeau and Burleigh Maroon and added a Round Three hat trick against Ormeau.

    New Zealand front rower Isaac Matalavea-Booth is on his way over to the Coast to play for the Burleigh MM Cup side and Keebra Park in 2020.
