The hooking position has garnered a lot of attention on the forum recently and when looking at the position through a junior development lense, it is a position of strength for the Titans.

Below is a list of players who have the ability to play the position at a high level now and in coming years:

    Jacob Tinsley (U14)
    Kaden Sommerville (U16)
    Oskar Bryant (U16)
    Kaleb Gould-Waiakiri (U16)
Bailey Martin (U16) - just learning position but shows outstanding potential
    Ediq Ambrosyev (U18)
    Jed Edwards (U18)

Since his move from Wellington in New Zealand powerful lock Junior Daniels has made every post a winner for Mudgeeraba in the GCRKL U15 Division Three competition.

These days players play a heck of a lot of games over the course of the season and one player who is on that trajectory is Keebra Park’s Brendan Hoffman.

In addition to playing for Keebra Park, he has played for Runaway Bay across three different grades.

In the GCRL U18 Division One competition, the second rower has played in seven matches including scoring against Southport and mid-June and over the weekend in Round Eleven against Burleigh.

He has also played three U20 matches scoring in his debut against Mudgeeraba and has also played in two Doug Lipp Cup matches with his debut against Southport on June 30 and also played against Ormeau a fortnight later.

New Zealand born, Keebra Park student and Southport second rower Terry-Jack Smart added a double to his already impressive try scoring exploits over the weekend in Round 11 of the U18 Division One competition as Southport defeated Currumbin 18-16.

Through his first nine U18 Division One matches, Terry-Jack Smart has a 100% strike rate.

Interesting to see Damon Somerville start at fullback for the Burleigh U18 Division One side in Round 11 on the weekend as the Bears defeated Runaway Bay 46-6.

The try means that Damon Somerville who is traditionally a centre/second rower has scored in both of his U18 Division One matches this season.

During the Hasting Deering’s Colts Round Eighteen bye week, Cameron Brown was back in the Helensvale U20 side at half and added to his try scoring tally with another try as the Hornets defeated Runaway Bay 32 - 26.

The try was a long range intercept. Cameron Brown flew out of the line as Runaway Bay were throwing the ball around taking the intercept and running ninety metres to score under the posts. As soon as he took the intercept it was shut the gate, no one was going to catch him.

During the Hasting Deering’s Colts Round Eighteen bye week over the weekend, Jayden Campbell was back in the Helensvale U20 side starting at five eight and added to his try scoring tally with another try as the Hornets defeated Runaway Bay 32 – 26 in Round Fifteen.

The try in fact was the game winning try with Jayden Campbell chasing through a grubber kick to easily be the first to the ball to score under the posts and seal the Hornets victory.

Jayden Campbell then backed up to start Round Sixteen of the Dou Lipp Cup at five eight scoring two tries as Helensvale went down 30 – 20 to Tugun.

Jayden Campbell’s first try was a long range intercept over ninety five metres, with Jayden Campbell streaking away for score under the posts with no chasers in sight after taking the intercept as Tugun spun the ball to their left.

Jayden Campbell scored his second try when he recovered a Helensvale bomb which bounced back towards the Hornets and straight into Jayden Campbell’s hands, from there Jayden Campbell ran to his right literally around the Tugun defence to score to the right of the up rights.

    David Neller (U14)
    Kobie Mackay-Taylor (U15)
