One of the more impressive players for the Burleigh Colts side this season is Lachlan Turnbull who will start at hooker for Round Six of the Hastings Deering's Colts competition against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

In the MM Cup competition in 2018 Lachlan Turnbull finished third in the player of the year voting.

Lochlan is a talent. Loves a try. Hopefully kicks on at the Bears.

A few Titans youngsters will be in for a great experience on Friday night when Tweed Heads Colts play the Cutters in the curtain raiser to the North Queensland NRL match.

Fullback Jaylon Toó and forwards Blake Campbell and Ben Thomas will have a great experience playing in front of a big crowd.

Interesting to see Repoama Morris-Ponga start in the centres for the GCRL Burleigh U20 side in their Round Four 28-12 loss to Currumbin with the young New Zealander scoring one of Burleigh’s two tries.

In 2018 he played in 15 GCRL U19 mataches for Burleigh scoring six tries but actually spent a fair bit of time at hooker.

Repoama Morris-Ponga is a former student of powerhouse Auckland Rugby league school, Mount Albert Grammar School (MAGS) and played for the New Lynn Rugby League in Auckland in his junior rugby league days.

Repoama Morris-Ponga has also represented the Cook Islands on a number of occasions including November 2017 in the Pasifika Youth Cup at the U18 level and in fact scored on Day One against New Zealand Maori. Repoama Morris-Ponga has also represented the Cook Islands in rugby, being part of the Cook Islands 2017 U18 World Sevens Tournament team.

Burleigh Bears 2019 Hastings Deering’s Colts squad member Lane Ticehurst had a more than solid Round Four match in the GCRL U20 competition scoring a double for Mudgeeraba after starting the match in the second row as the Redbacks defeated Southport 38-6.

Very interesting to see Stanley Farani start at half for the Burleigh U20 GCRL side in their 28-12 Round Four loss to Currumbin. Stanley Farani has been playing on the wing for the Burleigh Hastings Deering’s Colts side since his move to the Gold Coast from New Zealand.

Stanley Farani played in the 2018 Auckland rugby league competition for the Otahuhu Leopards and late in the season as a result of his play for the Leopards started on the wing for the Auckland U18 side in their match against U18 Auckland Niue.

For Auckland’s Pakuranga College Stanley Farani had an outstanding school boy career both in rugby, playing for the school’s First XV primarily at outside centre and rugby league including playing fullback for the school’s First XIII in their 18 – 8 2017 Auckland Rugby League Colleges Championship win against James Cook High School.

At last year’s Pakuranga College awards night, Stanley Farani received awards for both rugby and rugby league. In rugby Stanley Farani was the First XV Most Outstanding Player and Player of the Year awards and in rugby league received the Player of the Year award for the First XIII.

2018 also saw Stanley Farani represent Samoa at the U18 Pasifika Cup that was held in Auckland early in the year.

After starting the 2019 season off playing in the Burleigh Colts side at fullback, Titans linked Jayden Campbell moved back to the GCRL U20 competition for Round Four against Runaway Bay starting at half for Helensvale and quickly proving that it will not be long before he is back in the Burleigh Colts side after a dominant display which saw him score a hat trick and kick two goals as the Hornets defeated Runaway Bay 28-22.

In fact Jayden Campbell has been named on Burleigh’s extended bench for their Round Six Hastings Deering’s Colts clash against Wynnum Manly.

Outstanding achievement for Titans contracted Thomas Weaver, Ryan Foran and Riley Lack to make the New South Wales Emerging Pathways U16 squad. Only four of the squad are from NSW Country so a great effort by the Northern NSW boys.

Young Grafton Ghosts 19 year old hooker Jacob Ryan got his Group Two season off on the right foot last Sunday in Round One of the Group Two Reserve Grade competition scoring for Grafton as they defeated Orara Valley 38-4.

One player who I would really like to see try his luck in the Queensland Cup is Grafton Ghosts centre Dylan Collett, over the last three years he has been the outstanding centre in the Group Two First Grade competition and I think in each of those years was the competitions leading try scorer.

He has to be the favourite to finish as the leading try scorer again in 2019 after scoring four tries in Round One as Grafton defeated Orara Valley 46-6.

Anthony Don is proof positive that you are never too old.

Great win by the Tweed Heads Seagulls Colts side tonight in the curtain raiser to the Cowboys-Storm match with talented half Tahne Robinson scoring for the second week in a row as the Seagulls defeated the Mackay Cutters 16-10.

Great to see one of the most underrated players on the Gold Coast to make his MM Cup debut tomorrow for Burleigh when Noah Croudace starts on the wing against Wynnum.

He is a talent who will absolutely surprise in coming years.
