The Mudgeeraba Redbacks had a solid 2018 U19 GCRL season and as a result have had a number of players selected in the Burleigh 2019 Hastings Deering’s Colts side, one being second rower Lane Ticehurst.
In the U19 competition he played in thirteen matches scoring three tries with those tries coming against Southport, Beaudesert and Bilambil.
In 2018 Lane Ticehurst also played in one Kennard’s Hire Debbie Marzella competition match which was against Robina in May.
A number of exciting youngsters are moving up from Northern New South Wales for the 2019 season and one such player who will donning the maroon and white of Burleigh in their 2019 Colts side is Lismore Marist Brothers fullback Oshae Hannaway.
This season he played 18 matches for the Rams in the NRRRL First Grade competition scoring eight tries across the journey.
He scored doubles in Rounds One and Two against Byron Bay and Evans Head respectively. He also scored a late season double against Lower Clarence.
Oshae Hannaway’s other two tries came against Kyogle and Casino RSM.
Two more Titans made the Courier Mail's top 25 in Kea Pere and Will Evans.
Kea Pere
PERE is an 18-year-old development players with the Titans NRL squad, but already has plenty of experience under his belt, having played Intrust Super Cup with the Easts Tigers. He was last month selected in the Queensland emerging under-20s squad and often plays as a centre or wing. He also attracted some interest from NRL heavyweights Melbourne, who are affiliated with the Tigers. Played for the Queensland under-18s in 2017.
Will Evans
WITH English heritage, Evans has two more years on his Titans contract and can play centre or fullback. A Palm Beach Currumbin product, he spent time with the Broncos but left for more opportunities. He was man of the match in the NRL Schoolboy Cup national final in September. Turning 18 next year, the Titans consider him part of their future even though Super League club scouts will no doubt monitor his progress.

Have you seen how many in that series are from the GC but are signed with The Drongoes. Heartbreaking.
They are definitely trying. One night a week the Tweed and Burleigh MM teams (excluding boys contracted to other NRL clubs) have been training at Parkwood with the Titans coaching staff. The boys seem to be enjoying it and it has given the coaches an opportunity to see how the boys go. They have finished that block now but were all told how there is still opportunities with the Titans and that they have at least 2 coaches watch and review every game.
As they say Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the club has been hamstrung financially in junior development in the past but they are working hard and building something special.
2018 Mudgeeraba Redbacks U19 lock Patrick Clark will play the 2019 season with the Burleigh U20 Colts side after a 2018 season that saw him play in fifteen U19 GCRL matches.
In those two matches he scored against Runaway Bay in separate matches. He also played in one Doug Lipp Cup match this season which was against Runaway Bay in July.
Ormeau hooking prospect Keaston Schmidt had an outstanding 2018 season in the U19 GCRL competition and as a consequence has been selected in the 2019 Burleigh Hastings Deering’s U20 Colts squad.
In his 14 U19 matches for Ormeau this season Keaston Schmidt scored eight tries and kicked a conversion (against Runaway Bay) to finish with 34 points.
Keaston Schmidt had a outstanding finish to the 2018 U19 season scoring six tries in his last three games including a hat trick against Beaudesert a double against Currumbin and also scoring against Southport.
Earlier in the season he scored against Helensvale and Runaway Bay.
The 2019 MM and Colts draws are out and in Round One of the competitions Burleigh are up against Norths at Nundah on Sunday March 10 and Tweed Heads are at home also on March 10 against the Western Mustangs.
One of the more competitive positions in the 2019 Burleigh Hastings Deering’s U20 Colts squad is hooker and one of the players looking to secure the position is 2018 Helensvale U19 hooker Alexander Drewe.
In his 16 U19 matches this season, he scored six tries all of which came in separate matches with the tries coming against Southport, Currumbin, Bilambil, Mudgeeraba, Burleigh and Beaudesert.
Scoring should not necessarily be an issue for the Western Mustangs U20 Hastings Deering’s Colts squad in 2019 with Gatton winger Austin Jennings in the side.
In his first year with Gatton in the Toowoomba Rugby League First Grade competition in 2018 he finished with a 127% strike rate through eleven matches.
Austin Jennings scored four tries in a late April match against Southern Suburbs and also scored doubles against Pittsworth and Toowoomba Valleys. His other tries came in matches against Wattles, Oakey, Dalby and Goondiwindi. In fact in only two of his eleven matches the opposition was able to keep Austin Jennings from scoring with the opposition being Toowoomba Valleys and Southern Suburbs.
One of a number of players who will be looking to grab the No. 9 jersey in the 2019 Western Mustangs Hastings Deering’s Colts squad is Toowoomba Valleys player Harrison Burns.
In 2018 he played in sixteen matches for Valleys in the Toowoomba Rugby League Reserve Grade competition, scoring seven tries all of which came in different matches, with the tries coming against Southern Suburbs in two separate matches, Warwick, Goondiwindi, Brothers Toowoomba, Dalby and Wattles.
Big strong former Marymount College student Reegan Creedy will be one of a number of players pushing for a front row spot in the Burleigh U20 Colts side come the 2019 season.
This season with Burleigh in the U19 competition he played in five matches and Reegan Creedy also played in two Doug Lipp Cup matches making his debut against Currumbin in July and also playing later in the season against Tugun.
