Exactly, poor coaching. Why select a fullback on the bench and an actual hooker as 18th man?

Charlie Murray originally from Wauchope in Northern New South Wales has shed his ties with Newcastle and Parramatta to head up to the Gold Coast and was part of the of the Tweed Heads Seagulls 2018 MM Cup squad but did not play in any matches.

He is currently playing for the Currumbin Eagles in the GCRL U17 Division One competition and in Round Four last weekend Charlie Murray started at five eight and scored a try and kicked three from three as the Eagles outlasted a gallant Bilambil Jets side 18-10. Charlie Murray also has scored in Round Three against Ormeau in just his second match on the Gold Coast.

The former Wauchope Blues and Camden Haven High School student was part of the Parramatta Eels Harrold Matthews squad in 2017 and in 2016 as a 15 year old captained the New South Wales High Achievers Rugby League side on a PNG tour where they played a curtain raiser in front of 15,000 for a PNG against Australian Presidents XIII match in Port Moresby. Charlie Murray has also represented Group Three in multiple junior representative sides.

Titans linked youngster Kyah Watts scored his first try of the season for Burleigh in their U17 Division One Round Four victory over Runaway Bay after starting in the centres last weekend. The PBC student by the way had an outstanding Langer Cup match against Keebra Park recently.

Outstanding young Currumbin hooker Cole Geyer made it four tries from four matches when he scored again last weekend for Currumbin in their Round Four U17 Division One victory 18-10 over Bilambil.

Over the weekend the talented rake made his U19 GCRL debut when he came off the bench in a 28-16 win also against Bilambil.

Yes mate the mind boggles Paix was clearly fatigued badly last night and has never played hooker in his life , he clearly needed a break but instead we bring on a fullback so the actual fullback can have a rest on the wing, and the winger who is actually a centre and doesnt play wing can also get a rest on the bench , meanwhile we have an 18th man who is a genuine hooker who can play a full game , and did I metion we also had 3 half backs

Prior to his U18 NRRRL debut on Sunday, Titans contracted Ethan Foster lined up for the U16.5 Group One Clarence Coast side on Saturday in their Round Seven match against Ballina. Ethan Foster contributed a try and two goals from three attempts in their 16-4 victory.

It is great to see Titans linked Brenton Daley-Holten back on the field after starting at fullback for Bilambil in their U19 Round Seven match last weekend against Currumbin. It was only his second match of the season and whilst he was part of the Tweed Heads Seagulls MM Cup squad was not able to take the field.

Once he gains some fitness his game will continue to flourish and it should not be long before he is back in the Bilambil First Grade side after making his debut there as a 17 year old last year.

Titans contracted Noah Gafa is certainly consistent, in each of the opening four rounds of the GCRL U17 Division One competition, he has started in the centres and scored a try, the most recent being in Round Four last weekend in a 18-10 Currumbin victory over Bilambil.

There's nothing more baffling than Qld junior Origin selections. So many times they get it wrong, especially the bench hooker/utility role. Like Rhyse Martin coming off the bench a few years ago to play hooker in an U20 Origin game, or Will Brimson, a half, being selected at centre one season (although he did later get ruled out and they picked an actual centre). Two examples of many, unfortunately.

If they kept it simple and picked players in their usual positions, like NSW normally do, they'd probably pick up a few more wins in the age groups. Last night was bizarre with all the switching.

Paix did well last night considering he's never played hooker but what a waste it was not having him in the halves.

Two talented squads mate and should be a competitive match and what a great experience for the boys. Both sides have a few titans boys involved. Some of the key matchups include the centres and five eights up against each other.

Anyone who gets there will enjoy it and what a great idea by the titans.

Junior Qld selections have always been dominated by broncos contracted players as well as selectors and coaching staff. Broncos kids will always be favoured over others. That is the current mentality by the powers to be at the QRL and QAS. The current Qld under 18 coach Kurt Richards is in the coaching ranks of the broncos. Not sure on his football background but I know he is another ex school teacher throwing his hand at rugby league coaching. Therein lies the problem.

Talented PBC lock Solomon Torrens has moved around a bit this year but will start in the front row tomorrow for Bilambil in their Round Five U17 Division One march against Burleigh.

After a solid try scoring debut off the bench for Southport including scoring a try in Round Seven of the GCRL First Grade competition last weekend Burleigh MM Cup player Zane Harris moves into the starting side at five eight for their Round Eight match this weekend against Currumbin.
