After initially being named to start, Thomas Weaver came off the bench this afternoon for Cudgen in his second NRRRL First Grade match in the second quarter and kicked four from five as Cudgen defeated Murwillumbah 28-20.

Fellow PBC student's Daniel Butterini (Murwillumbah) and Jaylan De Groot (Cudgen) were also involved in the match as well former Keebra Park student's Kade Hill who played five eight for Murwillumbah and right centre Thomas Vickery for the Mustangs.

Great that Jamie McCormack was at the match keeping an eye on the Titans youngsters, as well as finding the next talent.

One Titans youngster I have been watching a bit of lately is Kaden Sommerville.
He was a member of the Burleigh 2020 Mal Meninga squad and is now playing U18’s with Burleigh and with PBC in the Langer Cup.
Coming through the younger grades he was primarily a hooker but has had a bit of a growth spurt and filled out over the last 18 months and has been spending a bit of time at lock.
He runs hard, and his defensive efforts have been outstanding! He tackles like a demon and each hit has venom!
I know Jamie went hard to sign him a couple of years ago and I feel like it will pay dividends in a couple of years time.

Titans linked Cole Geyer started from the bench in Round Three of the GCRL First Grade competition on Saturday against the Tugun Seahawks producing an outstanding performance when he came on in the dummy half role. Scoring a try and also recording a try assist.

Cole Geyer’s try came in the second half when he packed in at lock with Currumbin twenty metres out from the Tugun line. Cole Geyer picked up the ball from the base of the score taking off to his right. As usual Cole Geyer ran with the ball out in front of his body in two hands. The Tugun defence backed off and Cole Geyer burst through two defenders to score under the posts under pressure from the Seahawks fullback.

Cole Geyer’s try assist came in the first half. At dummy half close to the Tugun line, Cole Geyer skipped out of dummy half to his right and threw a perfectly weighted pass to his lock who ran into a gap to score just to the right of the posts.

Former Titans junior Ben Thomas started in the front row in Round Three of the GCRL First Grade competition on Saturday against the Mudgeeraba Redbacks scoring and recording two try assists.

Ben Thomas’s try came in the first half when he ran into a gap forty metres out before rounding the fullback to score under the posts. Both of Ben Thomas’s try assists came in the second half and both down the right side of the field. In relation to his first try assist Ben Thomas broke through the first line of the defence before putting in a short right footed kick which after hitting legs resulted in a Southport try.

Ben Thomas’s second try assist was more “normal” when once again he was in space and drew the last Mudgeeraba defender to send his right centre (Lee Turner) away to score.

It was great to see one of the more naturally gifted ball runners that I have ever seen playing junior rugby league being Julian Torrens back on the field this season coming off the bench on the last two weeks in the NRRRL U18 competition for Casino RSM including on Sunday in Round Four against the Marist Brothers Rams.

The young half/fullback is a wonderful attacking player.

I have been lucky enough to see a number of talented junior rugby league players and one player that has always stood out when I have seen him play was Tyrhys Williams who on Sunday started on the wing for Casino RSM in Round Four of the NRRRL U18 competition.

Unfortunately Casino RSM went down 20-18 to Marist Brothers Lismore.
