Josh Vuta who last year played for the Titans U16 squad looks like he will end up in rugby, he is currently captaining the Gold Coast U17 rugby squad in the U17 Gold Cup competition, where he has dominated playing at No 10. Gold Coast local and former Canberra Raider and previous U14 Titans development squad member is also doing well at No.8. Rugby at the junior levels continues to present real challenges for all NRL clubs.

It is a tough one in relation to Josh Vuta as he is a talented league player but his game is probably better suited to rugby. God luck to the young guy.

cc game was very scrappy but with kids being picked hopelessly out of position with 1 kid chosen who wasnt even part of the teams from day 1 plus anutha who had been dropped from the squad a mth ago and then brought back to play a key position lol..

Coaches are a joke who dont care about developing the kids but trying to add to their resume ..very very sad. not to mention the mates who blow in to manager, league safe etc positions.

With the junior rugby league season about to kick off across South East Queensland, I just wanted to make a comment in relation to a couple of the age old argument’s around junior rugby league. The first is that there will be an argument that young boys who are physically larger have an advantage at this age, whilst that may be true, the measure of a young player is the skills that they possess, how they utilise them as well as their dedication and enjoyment of playing rugby league. Similarly there is an argument that young boys who are dominating at the young age groups because of their physical size will not develop their skills as they have no reason to and thus by the time they get to U15’s and above they will be found out as the other players begin to catch up to them from a physical size perspective. Again it comes down to the dedication of the young player and also his coaches, whether they are at club, representative or school boy level to get the young boys to work on the skills of each player to stay in front of the curve.

Looking forward to seeing young blokes out on the field enjoying themselves and playing with their mates, some will make it the majority will not but above all I hope they enjoy the game, and hopefully the people on the sidelines remember that young boys are playing because they enjoy it and support them by behaving on the sidelines, a very small minority can have a major impact on the majority.

Good to have junior rugby league back with the preseason kicking off last weekend, with grading matches being played. Young U15 Beaudesert Kingfishers and Titans linked backrower Andre Semu started off the preseason in great form, mirroring his finish to the 2015 season where he was one of the Titans U14 developments squad’s best in their match against Samoa.

Elijah Rasiga and Beau Hargrave from Armidale have both been selected in the Greater Northern Tigers U18 representative side for the up coming NSW Country championships, both young players were part of the squad that attended training sessions with the Titans in late 2014 and Elijah also played some U17 development squad matches in 2015.

Hard working type of player who has previously made some Kookaburra rep sides in the past.
