Congratulations to Titans contracted front rower Antonio Nelu for his selection in the Ipswich extended CC squad for 2016. He was the standout performer in the Ipswich junior rugby league U15 competition this year and was almost unstoppable to finish the competitions top try scorer by a fair margin, averaging around two tries per game, including four in his teams grand final victory. He also played for the Titans U15 development squad in their victory over the Tigers a couple of weeks ago. He is a big strong powerful young player who was also considered the top U14 player in Auckland prior to moving over to Australia a year or so ago.

Good to see centre/second row Armidale product Elijah Rasiga make the 2016 Greater Northern Academy squad. Rasiga has been involved in a number of camps and development squad games for the Titans over the last one or two years.

Some good performances by Titans contracted boys across the Pacific Island Cultural Carnival, such as Will Evans named Cook Island U14 best player, with Tahenga Tiarea-Mareko lead them to a grand final win, Brent Barnes scoring a number of tries for PNG U14 and NYV player Kelepi Faukafa scoring for Tonga in their U18 grand final win. Nyc trialist Raiden Fonoti scored four tries in the U18 grand final. Others involved included Dion Samuela, Cook Island U14, Stanley Jackson Samoa U14, Drekwon Brown Samoa U14.

Brent Barnes kicked two goals for Qld Murri U15's in their first game of their Fiji tour against the Pacific Hunter Region. Qld Murri won 70-20.

It is times like this where I feel so very sorry for the junior players at our club with constant negative press. Regardless of whether you have signed with an NRL club, young players are out there playing and training hard and doing their best. Player Managers are banging on the doors of anyone who flashes some ability and then they are dumped just as quickly by everyone if they have an injury or a dip in form. Throw in questionable representative selections, unless you are aligned to the right club and things are tough enough if you dream of a future as an NRL player. Throw in the negative publicity that the Titans are going through and there will be plenty of other clubs banging on the doors of their managers telling to get out of their contracts. Junior Development is a cut throat business, look at what happened when the NRL took the Titans over, clubs dived in and grabbed a lot and I mean a lot of our juniors before they were signed to new contracts. I will not go into detail but there was a contract incident with one of those juniors too. Let’s hope the Roberts situation is not the last straw for fans, sponsors and our juniors. I fear it is.

The juniors get almost no publicity outside of this forum and that is disappointing as they are striving to obtain their dream and they are being treated like commodities rather than people.

Well done to Titans contracted fullback Brent Barnes who scored two tries and kicked two goals for the Qld Murri U15 touring side against the Fiji National Invitational team 46-16 in Suva earlier today. Brent Barnes scored two tries and kicked four goals for the two match tour, not bad at all considering he was the youngest player on the tour and will now start to prepare for the game against NSW Murri in February as a curtain raiser to the Allstars match.

Impressive stuff from Titans linked Max Bryant who played CC his year, he is getting a chance in the Gold Coast Dolphins 1st grade cricket side this week end, not bad for a 16 year old, interesting choice ahead for the talented dual sport athlete.
