Tyrone Sa’U and Caleb Evans to lead Marsden Makos in Allan Langer Cup

Marsden State High have the ammunition to launch an all-out assault on this year’s Allan Langer Cup field.

Whether they fire or fumble could come down to Wednesday afternoon’s clash with heavyweights Palm Beach Currumbin.

The Makos face a Round 1 mission against the reigning NRL Schoolboys champions but director of sport Matthew Hartigan is confident his squad are up to the task.

“This year’s squad is under no illusion that the hard work in Term 1 will pay dividends in the back end of the schoolboy cup season,” Hartigan said.

A hefty pre-season featured trial games against Balmain Tigers under 17s and Newcastle Knights under 17s and with 14 Makos taking part in the Mal Meninga Cup semi finals last month, Hartigan and head coach Jesse Maclean have plenty of talent to draw on.

Brisbane-contracted backrower Teui Robati shapes a key figure after steering Wynnum-Manly to the under 18s decider while captain Tyrone Sa’U starred on the wing for Souths-Logan in their minor premiership season.

Sa’U’s Queensland under 16s teammate Caleb Evans also offers plenty of attacking punch, as does former Coombabah State High School star Rixson Andrews, an Australian under 15s representative in 2017.

“We are very happy with the squad that we have assembled and the chance for these boys to represent our school with pride, passion and persistence,” Hartigan said.

“We have 6 boys backing up from last year’s team, with the younger boys very eager

to play in front of our vocal home crowd.”

Marsden travel to Palm Beach this week but will host 2019 home games at their Waterford West campus following after a multi-million dollar redevelopment.

Former Makos include Cameron Smith, Israel Folau and Antonio Winterstein.
