Regardless of the competition the opening rounds are always fascinating to see what teams have improved and what new players in the teams.

The 2019 Gold Coast Rugby League U20 competition is no different with the opening two rounds throwing up a few interesting results and new players.

One new player for the Helensvale Hornets is New Zealand born youngster Harrison Trathen who started Round One at five eight and Round Two in the centres for the Hornets which both matches against Southport due to the vagaries of the draw.

In New Zealand Harrison Trathen played both rugby and rugby league, representing the Tasman Titans U17’s in rugby league at the South Islands Rugby League tournament and Nelsons Bay in rugby.

The new (restructured) U18 comp is certainly going to be interesting as well. A lot of clubs are going to have trouble balancing there squads. Especially if the RLGC enforces the rules about rep players not being eligible for Div 2 teams.
But the level of competition should be outstanding, especially after the Mal Meninga players return to there junior clubs.
