PBC SHS v Keebra Park SHS

Palm Beach Currumbin State High School have claimed their third-straight Langer Cup title with a 16-8 victory over arch rivals Keebra Park State High.

In raising the trophy the Reds have earned their place in the Queensland State Final against Aaron Payne Cup and defending National champions Kirwan State High in Townsville next week.

It was field general halfback Tom Weaver pulling the strings, ensuring his side’s advance to the final with deft passing, incisive kicking and the critical communication to keep his side’s foot on the throat.

PBC controlled the match from start to finish after a flurry of points in the opening 10 minutes to finish the Langer Cup season undefeated.

The final began at an electric pace with three tries inside 10 minutes, Palm Beach getting the better of their northern Gold Coast rivals 10-4 in the opening exchange.

PBC wasted no time in scoring their first try after Keebra opened the match by kicking off out on the full then giving away a penalty.

Year 11 Halfback Tom Weaver was quick to punish with a deft pass setting second-rower Daniel Butturini one-on-one on the goal line to score.

Keebra erased that deficit moments later when a strike play sent Keebra captain and right winger Trey Peni racing through a hole on the left wing to tie the match at 4-all.

PBC forced a repeat set through Tom Weaver and it was that man again with another try assist, firing a wide pass for winger Troy Duckett to cross untouched in the corner.

The Reds dominated possession and territory for the remainder of the half but Keebra’s defence survived a 10-minute onslaught without conceding.

Weaver bursts through on an 60 metre break and PBC capitalised on a retreating defence, spreading right to centre Reef Sommerville for 12 point lead with 13 minutes to play.

Keebra Park lock Tyrone Gunn-James powered over the line with three minutes to play but a missed conversion removed all chance of a grandstand finish.

Great to see Titan Reef Somerville one of the try scorers in PBC's Langer Cup success.

Reef Somerville had a very solid game especially defensively, keeping the vaunted Keebra Park centres very quite.

The 2020 Langer Cup school boy campaign for Keebra Park’s Lachlan West.

In late July 2020 Lachlan West started at fullback for Keebra Park in their Round One Langer Cup school boy rugby league competition match against Wavell State High School finishing the match with one conversions and a try assist when he broke the line down the right side of the field before passing inside to Blake Mozer to score in the second half as Keebra Park went down 38 - 24.

Lachlan West also started at fullback in Keebra Park’s Round Two match against Marsden State High School and in Round Three against Ipswich State High School.

Lachlan West also started at fullback in the Round Four local derby against PBC scoring a double and adding a try assist in a tough 22 – 18 loss after Keebra Park led 14 – 0 early in the first half. Lachlan Wests try assist was as a result of a great cut out pass to his left to put his left wonger outside his firect opponent and giving him a direct passage to the try line.

Lachaln West scored his first try in the first half when after breaking the line down the left touch line he outpaced the PBC cover defence to score in the corner. Lachlan West’s second try came late in the second half when he raced though a gap in the left side of the PBC defence when a player came out of the line. Lachlan West exploited that situation to run thirty five metres to score near the right corner to get back Keebra Park back in the match.

Lachlan West started the 2020 Langer Cup Grand Final from the bench for Keebra Park as they went down 16 – 8 to PBC in a high quality match, coming on in the dying minutes of the match.

The 2020 Langer Cup school boy campaign for Keebra Park’s Connor Te Kani.

After attending Brisbane Grammar School in 2019 and playing First XV GPS rugby there, Connor Te Kani moved back to the Gold Coast in 2020 attending Keebra Park State High School and started Round One of the Langer Cup school boy rugby league competition at half back against Wavell State High School kicking one conversions in Keebra Park’s 38 – 24 loss.

Connor Te Kani also started at half back in Keebra Park’s Round Two match against Marsden State High School kicking three conversions and a late penalty goal. Connor Te Kani added three conversions from four attempts as Keebra Park defeated Ipswich State High School 22 – 16 in Round Four of the Langer Cup.

Connor Te Kani also started at half back in the Round Four local derby against PBC recoding a try assist in the first first half when he put through a kick which was grounded in the in goal by Titans contracted centre Jahream Bula.

Connor Te Kani continued his run of starts at half back in Round Five away to St Mary’s Toowoomba and had a big match in the Keebra Park 46 – 12 victory kicking six goals and recoring three try assists.

Connor Te Kani’s first try assist came when he got into dummy half a metre out from the St Mary’s line and threw a good pass to his left to a charging Yorel Alapaki who scored near the left upright. I know that the pass sounds simple, but it was not as there were defenders everywhere and he had to delay the pass to just the right moment to put his runner into the gap.

Connor Te Kani’s second try assist came late in the first half, with Connor Te Kani operating on the right, he received the ball two passes off the ruck and ran the ball paralell to the defensive line and threw a short no look pass to a straight running Seth Niketemo who went straight through a gap to score from ten metres out.

Connor Te Kani’s final try assist came in the second half. Connor Te Kani once again was running parallel to the defensive line, this time to the left and put in a right foot grubber kick which sat up perfectly for Jahream Bula to run onto a metre from the try line and cross easily.

Connor Te Kani also started at half back as Keebra Park qualified for the 2020 Langer Cup Grand Final on the back of a big win over Wavell State High School as was once again their primary goal kicker including two outstanding conversions from the left touch line to convert Keebra Parks first two tries of the match, both scored by Levi Jones in the left corner.

Connor Te Kani started the 2020 Langer Cup Grand Final at five eight for Keebra Park as they went down 16 – 8 to PBC in a high quality match with Connor Te Kani recording a try assist when he held up the ball perfectly on the right in a planned Keebra Park move to put Trey Peni into a gap after he had looped around from his right wing to the left for a perfectly executed try.

The 2020 Langer Cup school boy campaign for Keebra Park’s and Titans contracted Jahream Bula.

In term three of the 2020 school year Jahreem Bula was part of the Keebra Park Open A Langer Cup school boy rugby league side starting Round One at left centre against Wavell State High School and also started at left centre in Round Two against Marsden State High School scoring his first try of the 2020 Langer Cup competition.

In the second half Keebra Park half Connor Te Kani put up a huge bomb, the Marsden left side defence could not take the ball on the full with it rebounding back into the in goal and it was a case of Jahream Bula wanting it more as he charged through and even though the Marsden fullback was a lot closer to the ball, Jahream Bula’s effort was far more urgent and he dived on the ball first.

Jahream Bula continued his run of starts at left centre in a Round Three 22 – 16 win over Ipswich State High School. Jahream Bula had a solid match including a long line break in the second half. Jahream Bula took a hit up receiving the ball to the left of the play the ball and stepped off his left foot and broke through the centre of the Ipswich ruck and only the fullback prevented Jahream Bula from scoring an outside individual long range fifty mtre try.

Jahream Bula also started at left centre in the Round Four local derby against PBC scoring his second try of the competition when he raced through to ground a short attacking kick from half Connor Te Kani in the first half.

Jahream Bula also started at left centre in Round Five away to St Mary’s Toowoomba scoring a second half double and also recording a first half try assist.

Jahream Bula’s first try was a result of pure strength and desire to score. Off the back of a scrum ten metres out from the St Mary’s line, Jahream Bula received the abll surrounded by three defenders who all engagaed him at the same time. Jahream Bula continued to fight the tackle and pump his legs and dragged the defenders five metres before crashing over around ten metres from the left corner post.

Jahream Bula’s second try result from him chasing through a Keebra Park attacking kick. Connor Te Kani ran parallel to the defensive line to the left of the field and put in a right foot grubber kick which sat up perfectly for Jahream Bula to take the ball above his head around a metre from the try line and surge over to score near the left up right.

Jahream Bula’s try assist came when he broke into space down the left side of the field from around fifity metres out, Jahream Bula came back inside slightly to give his winger more room and drew the St Mary’s fullback before passing to his winger who had a straight and easy fifteen run to the try line to score in the left corner.

Jahream Bula also started at left centre as Keebra Park qualified for the 2020 Langer Cup Grand Final on the back of a big win over Wavell State High School with Jahream Bula scoring an outstanding solo try just before half time in the big win.

Jahream Bula took a hit-up forty two metres out from the time, to the left of the play the ball and flew through the initial defensive line with a subtle left foot step which propelled him through a gap behind the ball the move before he produced another left foot step to beat the Wavell fullback and score under the posts.

Jahream Bula started the 2020 Langer Cup Grand Final at left centre for Keebra Park as they went down 16 – 8 to PBC in a high quality match.
