Good to see youngster Zane Prophet make his Doug Lipp Cup debut over the weekend in Round One for Ormeau against Runaway Bay when he started in the second row for the Shearers.

He celebrated his debut with a good first half try when he took a flat pass to scored near the right upright after initially juggling the pass.

Burleigh Colts squad member Leighmon Hohaia Katene made his Doug Lipp Cup debut in Round One on the weekend for Ormeau in their loss to Southport starting from the bench and playing in the halves on the right side of the ruck. He put in some more than decent bombs during he match.

Happy to see Jai Whitbread and Jesse Arthurs named in the extended bench for the match against the Sharks. Both have been very good in the opening two rounds of the Queensland Cup for Burleigh.

If the Tweed Heads Seagulls Queensland Cup side suffer any injuries in the halves this season they have a good replacement in the wings being new recruit Luke Jurd from the Cronulla U20 Jersey Flegg side.

Luke Jurd has started the season playing for Currumbin in the Gold Coast Rugby League First Grade competition, and in Round One against Southport last weekend, started at half and scored a try and kicked three from three.

Luke Jurd operated primarily on the right side for the Eagles and his try came from a dummy and run from around ten metres out from the Southport line as he dragged two defenders over the line with him.

After two seasons away from the Gold Coast attending Downlands College on the Darling Downs half Kyle Turei is back on the Gold Coast for the upcoming season.

In 2016 he played for Burleigh but for the 2019 season has moved to the Nerang Roosters.

In 2018 Kyle Turei played fly half for the Downlands College First XV school boy rugby side including scoring a double and kicking two conversions against local rivals Toowoomba Grammar School in their annual grudge match.

Kyle Turei is also a distinguished touch player in 2018 being selected in the Queensland U18 touch side and U18 Australian Maori

The Mullumbimby Giants NRRRL First Grade side have had a decent player join their ranks being Buster Bushby from Sydney. Whilst he last played rugby league for St Charles in the Sydney Roosters junior rugby league region at the U16 level, 2018 saw Buster Bushby play rugby for Waverley in the Sydney Rugby Division One Colts competition for whom he played eight matches for in 2018, being four at fly half (No. 10), three at half (No. 9) and one on the left wing. He scored a double in Round Five against Balmain.

It looked like Kuyan Roberts-Laurie would be playing the 2019 NRRRL season, which starts this weekend for Byron Bay but instead he will be back at his 2018 club being the Ballina Seagulls.

Whilst he is still U18 eligible Kuyan Roberts-Laurie should see plenty of NRRRL First Grade this coming season.

Kuyan Roberts-Laurie started this season playing in the U18 Laurie Daley Cup competition for the Northern Rivers Titans coming into the side in Round Three against the North Coast Bulldogs, starting from the bench and making an impact when he came on in the second half, playing in the right second row position.

In Round Four against the Central Coast Roosters Kuyan Roberts-Laurie moved into the starting side in the second row and also started in the second row in Round Five against the Greater Northern Tigers.

Against the Greater Northern Tigers Kuyan Roberts-Laurie played in the left second row position and was outstanding over the course of the entire match and was rewarded for his whole hearted effort with a solid try when he crashed over out wide in the second half, slamming the ball down with his left arm under pressure from Greater Northern Tigers defenders.

In his second Queensland Cup match in Round Two against the Ipswich Jets over the weekend, Titans NRL contracted Jesse Arthurs scored a double in his 80 minutes on the field at right centre, making 117 metres (36 post contact), had a line break and had a team leading six tackle breaks whilst playing the ball on average in 3.53 seconds.

Defensively Jesse Arthurs made eleven tackles at a tackling efficiency of 84.62% highlighting the work that he did on his strength and conditioning over the off season with the Titans. As a result Jesse Arthurs was named in the centre in the Queensland Cup Week Two Team of the week.

Jesse Arthurs first try was as a result of him collecting a dropped ball by the Ipswich fullback and for his second he ran a good line to score out wide near the right corner.

After his performances in the opening two rounds of the 2019 Queensland Cup for Burleigh Jesse Arthurs was deservedly rewarded by being named on the Titans extended bench for Round Two in the NRL against the Cronulla Sharks.

Jai Whitbread came off the bench for Burleigh for the second week in a row in Round Two of the Queensland Cup last weekend against the Ipswich Jets and had a big game including scoring a first half try.

Jai Whitbread showed some good speed off the mark to take the ball around twelve metres out from the line and showed good speed off the mark to split the Jets defence to score under the posts.

In his forty six minutes on the field, Jai Whitbread ran for 111 metres (29 post contact, had a team leading two line breaks, broke four tackle, played the ball at an average of 3.1 seconds all whilst making eleven tackles at a 100% tackling efficiency.

After his performances in the opening two rounds of the 2019 Queensland Cup for Burleigh Jai Whitbread was deservedly rewarded by being named on the Titans extended bench for Round Two in the NRL against the Cronulla Sharks.
