One of the most talented junior rugby league players that I have seen in the Grafton area in recent seasons has been Tyrhys Brown who in 2021 was one of the best players in the Group Two U18 competition and tomorrow the former fullback who spent some time in the Penrith Development System will start in the second row for the South Grafton Rebels in Round One of the 2022 Group Two First Grade competition against their fierce cross town rivals the Grafton Ghosts.

The leading try scorer for the Premiership winning U16 Andrew Johns Cup Northern Rivers Titans side was Harry Chadburn and this afternoon even though he is still U16 eligible Harry Chadburn will start from the bench for the Tweed Heads Seagulls U18 NRRRL side in their Round One match away to the Byron Bay Devils.

A very young Tweed Heads Seagulls side were too good for Byron Bay in Round One of the NRRRL U18 competition this afternoon 20 - 12 in what turned into a fiery encounter.

A great effort considering 50% of the Seagulls side were still U16 eligible.

Some of the standouts for the Seagulls included Creedence Donovan, Isaac Harrison, Harry Chadburn, Ricco Waitititi and Zane Harrsion.

Everyone please remember that the Titans have a lot of talented players in their JTS Program being nurtured by Jamie McCormack and Co. All the best to them as they chase their dream, the best of luck.

Supporters stay positive as the JTS players will make a name for themselves and they certainly do not need anyone telling others how good they are, they will certainly show that themselves, certainly not someone who is profoundly exhausted and cannot do them justice, not even close.

Few Titans contracted in the QLD U18 Emerging squad. Wonder how many will make the QLD U19 squad named next week?

    Great to hear.

Also do you think that Kelise and Issac will be as good as their family members. Both I feel will do well over the next few years ? Kelise looks like he has a good relationship with Weaver.

Klese Haas was outstanding in Round Two of the Colts competition but needs to put in some strong back to back performances but early signs are good.

Iszac has already played well at the QCUp level and looks a sure fire NRL player was early as next season.

Round One of the 2022 NRRRL First Grade competition saw Rowan Mansfield start on the right wing for the Ballina Seagulls in their Round One match against the Kyogle Turkey with Rowan Mansfield scoring four of the Seagulls thirteen tries in a 66 – 6 victory.

Rowan Mansfield had to wait until the 28th minute to cross for the first of his four tries and the try was certainly not a regulation one. With Ballina playing the ball just a couple of metres out on the left side of the field, Rowan Mansfield went looking for the ball on the opposite side of the field and positioned himself just behind the play the ball and when the Seagulls dummy half tried to his to his left, one of the Turkey’s players got his hand to the ball which was knocked straight to Rowan Mansfield who then ran to his right and forced his way over ten metres in from the left corner post with two defenders trying in vain to prevent him from getting the ball down.

Rowan Mansfield added his second try just four minutes later in the 32nd minute when the Ballina left second rower Anthony Coleman made a line break near the halfway mark and after drawing the Kyogle fullback Anthony Coleman got the ball away to Rowan Mansfield who then ran twenty metres untouched to score near the left corner.

Rowan Mansfield completed his hat trick in the 47th minute when he backed up a break on his inside by his five eight who as he approached the Turkeys fullback kicked towards Rowan Mansfield wing with Rowan Mansfield getting the ideal bounce still twenty five metres out and then he was able to bring the ball around to score under the posts.

Rowan Mansfield’s fourth and final try was scored in the 51st minute and started deep inside Ballina territory. From inside their own twenty metre area Ballina kicked early with the Seagulls getting to the ball near the halfway and kicked the ball off the ground towards the try line, then the five eight and the Turkeys fullback overran the ball and just as the Turkeys fullback was able about to dive on the ball Rowan Mansfield came from the right and toe’d the ball out of the fullback’s reach. Rowan Mansfield then picked up the ball and scored on the right side of the field.

Post the 2022 MM Cup competition Titans contracted Josh Lynn has transitioned back to club rugby league, starting Round Four of the 2022 Gold Coast Rugby League U18 Division One competition at halfback for the Nerang Roosters against the Currumbin Eagles with Josh Lynn scoring a try and kicking four goals from six attempts including an outstanding conversion from the right touchline in the 32nd minute to convert Taniela Mapusua-Lataki’s try.

Josh Lynn scored in the 29th minute when after receiving the ball from his left around twenty two metres out and directly in front of the posts and two passes from the play the ball, Josh Lynn stepped back off his left foot before executing the same move once again and then Josh Lynn was able to dart over to score under the posts. Josh Lynn then stepped up to convert his own try from directly in front.

The match also saw Josh Lynn record a try assist in the 15th minute when he identified an opportunity from close range down a short left blindside. On the final tackle Josh Lynn moved into dummy half and darted to his left and throw a good short ball to put Shannon Donaldson over near the left corner. In fact the reason that Nerang were so close to the line in the first pace was as a result of Josh Lynn putting Kyen Murphy into a gap only to be brought down just short of the line with Josh Lynn then moving into dummy half.

Josh Lynn’s line break assist came in the 52nd minute when on the left side of the field near the halfway mark Josh Lynn threw a cut-out pass to his left to put Shannon Donaldson away down the left touchline.

In addition to kicking well for goal, Josh Lynn’s short kicking game was on song including in the opening minute of the match from the last tackle in the opening set of six when Josh Lynn, from eight metres out and to the left of the play the ball put in a short right foot grubber kick into the in-goal near the left corner with the Currumbin fullback forced to take the ball dead.

Josh Lynn put in a further outstanding tactical kick in the 10th minute when from thirty five metres out from his own line Josh Lynn drove the ball deep into Currumbin territory with the Eagles fullback making a mess of the catch with the ball going into touch on the twenty metre mark.

Josh Lynn has also named at halfback in Round Five against the Helensvale Hornets.
