    Burleigh welcome QCup challenge

BURLEIGH are welcoming the challenge tomorrow's clash against unbeaten Easts will present their Queensland Cup campaign.

Despite losing their last two games, the Bears head into the match against the Tigers with their confidence bolstered after last week's close tussle with Cup favourites Wynnum.

Coming on the back of their 32-6 home loss to Redcliffe, last week's effort -- where only goal kicking got the Seagulls across the line after both sides scored three tries -- was a marked improvement.

"I was actually pretty happy with how we played considering we didn't get the points," Burleigh coach Paul Bramley said.

"I was really happy we drew Wynnum after the loss against Redcliffe.

"It was important we went and played a front-runner of the competition.

"Had we gone out and played one of the bottom teams it probably would have hidden some of the areas we need to work on, whereas at the weekend, we were strong in a lot of areas, so it was good for the confidence of the players."

But Bramley expects another challenge this week against the Tigers, a feeder club for NRL side Melbourne.

"They've got a link with the Storm and you can certainly see that in their style of play," Bramley said.

"They play high-completion footy, so it's going to be a good test.

"I see it as a real similar game to the weekend (against Wynnum)."

Anthony Don remains in the No.1 jersey after shifting to fullback last week when Jamie Dowling was out injured. Dowling returns in the centres this week.

While he wants to maintain the level set last week at Wynnum, Bramley also wants the Bears to show consistency at home.

"We've had a win and a loss and our loss (to Redcliffe) was pretty poor," he said.

"We need to go out and be consistent. We want to pride ourselves at home on being a very consistent footy side so hopefully we can get back on track this week."

Tweed have gained the services of Titans forward Ben Ridge for this afternoon's clash against the Cutters in Mackay, where they hope to build on last week's maiden win against Sunshine Coast.
