It is amazing and just goes to show that Phil Gould is right with his full field length Super Tag that he runs out of the Panthers which also allows kicks. Rugby League needs to fully embrace touch footy and oztag. Two things that were born out of Rugby League.

We need fans like us playing it at a social and recreational level. And these competitions should be run by the ARLC and branded and concluded by NRL clubs.

We have junior development officers but let me propose that our sport needs officiers charged with recreation.

Of course this also slides in as a key plank in our junior development system where some kids and parents might not be fussed on tackle. This gives them a chance to participate and the opportunity to move into contact Rugby League.

And the idea isn't to be laughed at because look at what touch footy has produced! Benji Marshall and Shawn Johnson!

The amount of people who play touch footy and live and breath it is extraordinary! And many are women and many don't take an active interest in the NRL.

Here is our chance to turbo charge our juniors, widen our dragnet for players, massively increase our participation rates, build our crowds and Memberships.

Hands up if you'd be interested in playing Titans SuperTag? And hands up who'd go out and actively recruit and build a team?

Too right and its the brand of footy that we would all be too happy to pay to see and be a part of and the brand of footy that captures kids imaginations.

I don't how many recreational teams you'd get in the same area...it wouldn't be easy organising a full team...it's hard enough organising 8 blokes to play in a touch comp.


You might get some coaches entering their team in a comp to run patterns as a training exercise.
