Question Carney signs with Cronulla Sharks

Sydney Roosters have confirmed that Todd Carney will be released from the final year of his NRL contract.

In a statement released on Thursday, the club said that they have agreed to let the 2010 Dally M medallist leave following a request from Carney and his manager David Riolo.

"This outcome has been mutually agreed and we believe it is the best result for all parties," the statement said.

"We wish Todd well in his future endeavours."

I suppose it begs the question: do we need a 5/8?

Yes we need a 5/8, but we don't need an idiot.
Carney and Myles seem to be the ultimate dumb and dumber duo, probably best we learn from the Roosters mistakes.

Pass. Prefer to see him stay in Rugby League but with Les Catalans.

Yeah mate, I know. Funny thing is when you talk to the Atherton guys they sing a different tune. I'm not a fan of either of them really but we do need a 5/8 I think.

My opinion is that we do need a 5/8, and Carney could be our answer, and not only would he help us, we would most likely help him steer away from alcoholism. Leadership wise at the Titans, the positives far outweigh the negatives, with the likes of strong characters such as Scotty Prince, Presto, Harro, Bull etc, who have been a good influence on the younger guys such as Gordon, Mead, Zillman, Srama etc who could easily be going out every weekend drinking with their friends, but they don't because they know they'll be letting the club, the other players, and the fans down. Plus we've changed guys like Chris Walker and Greg Bird from being 'bad boys' to respectable citizens. I'm personally not worried about Myles next year, or wouldn't be worried about Carney, because if any club would be able to successfully take them on, I know it would be the Titans.

Sign him as soon as his writing hand is free

There are players in this squad (a few of the ones leaving) who have done way worse than Carney has this year.

As Gus Gould would say...No, No, No, No, No!
Carney is trouble...some of the stories I have heard from a few Atherton locals...not footballers...would indicate he was definitely no angel whilst up there.
    Sorry only trouble here!

Same sort of contract(and discount) as Bird.
No special rules, restrictions or bans - he should be treated like every other member of the squad.
I'm sure he's got problems, most of us do. But his should be worked with privately with professionals, not guidelines printed up in the Daily Telegraph. If his 'rehab' or (whatever he does to stay ont the straight and narrow) is not handed over to the media to scrutinise, then they have nothing to make a spectacle about every time he wants to enjoy some life outside of footy.
The girl from the ring watched a highlights reel of Greg Bird, she died 7 days later.....

I think we should sign him for 12 months. with options to extend but i would be hesitant in extending unless a miracle happened.

I dont think we would have much issue controlling him for 12 months, we could be blooding Sezer or Henry in that time also.

He's toxic. I'd rather our club missed the 8 without him than got in with him.

I joked on another thread that I would buy him a carton every monday if we signed him - but that's all it was a joke. And our club would like a joke with Carney and Miles back together along with Bird.

    No thanks.
