    Classy Tweed Sets Cup Record
    QRL Media

THE top-of-the-table Tweed Heads Seagulls are yet to be defeated this season ? a statistic that remained unchanged following their 31-20 win over the Sunshine Coast at Piggabeen yesterday.

It was a hard-fought win against the gutsy Sea Eagles who were keen to challenge themselves against the competition leaders.

Despite their lowly status, the Sea Eagles have been playing much better than their losing score lines may suggest.

In recording their win, Tweed Heads have now set a new milestone in the Queensland Cup, having gone 20 games undefeated (including a 10-10 draw with the Mackay Cutters in round 14 this year and a final round win in 2010), breaking the record of 19 set earlier this year by the Northern Pride.

Having endured a tough game against the Burleigh Bears the weekend before, the Seagulls entered the game without hard-hitting forward Rod Griffin (broken hand) and representative hooker Kayne Lawton (ribs).

And with the minor premiership stitched up, Tweed could have been forgiven for feeling complacent.

However, coach Ben Anderson made sure his side were focused on the task at hand.

?They may not have the results but Sunshine Coast have been pushing sides and if we don't give them the respect we could find ourselves chasing,? Anderson told the Gold Coast Bulletin before the game.

While the Seagulls didn?t find themselves ?chasing? the score after leading 20-8 at half-time, it was a close-run thing in the second half.

With 10 minutes remaining, the Seagulls were in front 26-20 and a monumental upset was not out of the question.

However, the Seagulls steadied to pull away to record their 18th victory this year, and with only three more games remaining, will be sizing up their chances of going through the rest of the regular season undefeated.

The Seagulls will next meet fellow Gold Coast Titans feeder the Ipswich Jets, who snapped a two-game losing streak with a win over the Norths Devils.
