    Default Low Crowds

I read an interesting article in the courier mail the other day, well the article was not that interesting, but the comments are.

It is about Searle trying to get more people to games, and like most on here i thought that it was the ticket prices that are too expensive, hence easy fix, and should be done by the Titans asap.

This looks like it is only partial true.
Read the comments yourself if you like
    http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/...041188194?pg=2

The most interesting aspect in those comments to me is that about 90% of the comments do not mention the tickets, but the food and drink prices.

And there right, i can handle the expensive ticket to the game, (well its not really that bad as a member), but the added cost of $100 plus for extras while there is f*cking outrageous. And the worst thing is, that it is another company (NOT THE TITANS) that have the rights to this.

Meaning the Club i support dont get a razzoo out of it, and some 3party company stitch me up every friggin week without any ramifications.

This all boils down to the Local Council, they tender the contract out. How the hell do we change the way this is handled?

This IMO is the biggest problem at the moment regarding low attendances, you can not be expected to take a family of 4 to a game, and pay nearly $100 for junk food, the dog would turn his nose at.

To top it off, i go and buy 4 cups of warm light beer, @ $6.70 a cup and they charge me another .70 cents for the f*cking TRAY!!

Now as an Australian i am used to being completely shafted when buying anything, even though the US dollar is lower than ours, we for some reason except paying $18 a kilo for bananas and twice the price of a car, get hammered in rego and then flogged again for insurance (not that it is really insured for floods anyways), but this has gone too far.

    Solutions:
Get the Variety Club, or some other charity organization in there with a sausage sizzle- seriously who the hell doesn't love a good sausage sizzle, and for $3 you get a sausage on bread with sauce and a can of drink. All profits go the Charity, more attendance at the footy, Bazinga!

Or open it up to free trade, the council can hire stalls, how long till McDonalds and Subways are paying huge money for the rights, and Castlemain, or some other beer company tripping over themselves for a chance to sell there product. The council would make 500% more money, we would be charged 500% less, bigger gate takings, more family friendly.

    What do you think?

I think I'm sick of noodles and you're making me bloody hungry, Coaster.

Seriously though, you are spot on. Ever since Skilled opened there have been complaints about the catering contract. Sausage sizzle, Yatala dogs eyes with dead horse or whatever but let's not totally lose contact with rugby league's roots.

It turns out it is Stadiums Qld that gave the rights of Skilled and the only other place ive kicked a stink at, AAMI park in Vic to this mob http://www.mobc.com.au/.

Feel free to drop them a line and abuse the hell out of them, they are ripping you off people!!!!

Coaster your on the money more affordable more people especially families
Heres another point i travel just over an hour out west every day to work, they love league out there, but if you consider $20 in petrol $35 a ticket plus food & grog $100 for a Friday night game i can't blame them for watching in the Pub.
I am sure if a package was put together these people could be catered for, there is no free transport to get to games from Beaudesert they would also be able to pick up patrons at the Canungra Kakoda Army Barracks.
Maybe whoever at the club could try and work out some numbers..

If you read the thread about the GAYFL Sunburns stadium, it appears they negotiated self managemnt rights. Sweet deal! Nicely done!

The food/drink prices are the worst part about going to the footy. The thing is, if it was reasonably priced we'd buy more food there, but because it's such a rip off we go to HJ's/Maccas on the way. $4.95 gets us a Whopper jnr, small drink, fries and sundae! At the footy $9.90 gets me 3 warmish peices of "chicken strips" and crappy chips. Then drinks on top! Screw that!

The Cowboys were on to a good thing when the food & drinks were controlled by community groups (Rotary, Lions, etc.). You got a good variety of food at decent prices. Unfortunately, Stadiums Qld put it out to tender. Spotless won and now they're back to the high priced rubbish that everyone else gets.

I probably should add that even though you can wait 10mins to get a chiko roll or pie, I don't know how many times I've had to go back because it was cold in the middle.

And don't get me started on the stoopid, semi-lingual check-out operators who can't work out how much change you are supposed to get from a $50 when you buy 4 beers, even though they've been doing it all night! Maybe they need cheat-sheets in front of them.

And let me guess, crowd numbers started dwindling as soon as that happened.

I don't go to a lot of park footy, as I have 3 kids who require a chauffeur at any given time on the weekends, but last time I hit the grounds I was paying $3.50 for a cold can of beer (yes, COLD!!!) and about the same for a hot pie with FREE sauce from a bottle! Yes peeps, FREE sauce!

And I will tell you now, there is something very fulfilling about watching the footy with reasonably priced, icy-cold beer and a meat pie that doesn't come with portion controlled sauce.

Coaster is deadset right to be on the war path about this. Rugby League fans are being fleeced.

And C Whiz makes a good point. Not just about the economy of it all but the overall experence and fulfilment of it all.

Really sad to see the Cowboys Leagues club lose catering rights. I belive they had the ideal formula.

Just want to say, I completely agree with food prices being the primary reason crowds are down.
Tickets to the game are fair I think if you don't have to be in the best seats. Food and drink prices kill everyone though.

In this day and age people expect value for money, and none of the vendors deliver it. Calamari and chips is around $10 if I remeber correctly, you get about 5 rings and 1 thousand chips. That's one expensive potato!
