    Default Australian Open Results

I thought I'd try to make one thread where we can talk about all the Australian Open results over the next fortnight.

    Enjoy.

Today was a day of decimation in the womens draw!

Several seeds dropping already, Venus Williams and Elena Dementieva gooooooone.

Did anyone watch the Dokic match? Jelena appeared to crack under the pressure, which is a terrible shame because I'm in love with her.

Jelena had a match point in the second set (after saving a set point) and thought she won it. She didn't hear the linesman call out. She looked really out of sorts after that.
She dropped the 2nd set in a tie break and then collapsed in the 3rd set 6-1.

Poor Jelena, it was good to see a proud Aussie crowd cheering her on again though.

My picks Andy Roddick and Lindsay Davenport are safely through to the second round with relative ease. Always a good sign in the first week of any Grand Slam event.

Serena Williams struggled as predicted by most - I think it is only a matter of time before we see the defending champion exit the tournament.

Today we see Lleyton Hewitt on court as well.

I think that Martina Hingis ( I loooooove the Swiss Miss) will make it through to the 3rd round, and then her lack of match fitness and a better prepared opponent will knock her out.

Fast forward 12 months, if her ankles have survived, she will be back up towards the top 20 and will make the finals.

Dokic appeared to suffer from the same problems which plagued her early on in her career. When she lost that second set her head went down far too quickly & she appeared to give up. To win grand slam tournaments you need to show more heart than what she showed in that third set yesterday.

It seemed like she was gone from the moment she thought she had won. She even mentioned it in some interviews.

She looks like she'll come good though.

Hewitt loves a battle doesn't he? There was a whole bunch of 5 set matches featuring seeds in the Mens today. Compare that with Federer cruising - he's just too good!

    WARNING! WARNING!

Martina Hingis looked like she had never left the game for three years tonight! An awesome showing from the 'Swiss Miss', it was great to see her back on court with that trademark smile most red blooded men love (raised hand)

Martina was one of the more impressive women in round 1 - Serena Williams said four months out had effected her game, obviously, though would she come back with the same venom after three years? Hard to answer that though Martina's form is really tempting for the punter

Oh, BTW, if Lleyton makes it to the final 16 it will be a great effort. Hewitt looks out of sorts and as much as I admire his courage and heart when on court, I think he will not repeat his 2005 herorics.

    I hope I am wrong.

From what i saw from Hewitt he has a lot of improving to do to even go close to winning the title but he has a habit of going through tournaments struggling & still getting up.

The Scud had another shocker. The only way he could recapture any of his previous form is to get rid of the 18 yr old gf, forcibly remove himself from the party scene and wholey and solely focus on tennis. But I doubt any of the above will happen.

Congrats to Ana Ivanovic from Serbia and Montenegro... she performed so well yesterday and I say she is someone you should all look at as a future Number 1... she has that killer instinct about her..

Well done Lleyton for surviving that and giving the crowd something to cheer about yesterday, lets hope you can go all the way now..

AND GO Martina.. that was pure class yesterday I looved watching that... well watching it when there was drinks breaks in the cricket.. .. but from what I saw she was flawless.. and LOL at her opponent... she threw her racquet at the end and it nearly hit her back in the face..

    Yeah who would have thought?.

But it was always going to be like that seriously, even in Hopman Cup Alicia Molik always carried him, but what a pity that such a talent has gone to waste. cya.

P.S i want to Marry Martina Hingis.
