Thumbs down Broncos Sign Queenslander Capewell

    Broncos Sign Queenslander Capewell

THE NRMA Insurance Broncos have today completed negotiations with Luke Capewell, with the two parties agreeing to terms on a one-year deal.

The Queensland-born youngster, who has previously played NRL football with South Sydney and is currently with the Gold Coast Titans, will provide some solid utility value for the larger Broncos? squad.

Broncos? head coach Anthony Griffin said Capewell would prove a handy acquisition with his ability to fill several roles.

?Luke is an elite young player ? he has played over 30 NRL games and only turned 22 this year.

?He can play anywhere from halfback to fullback so he can certainly fill plenty of positions for us.?

Born in Charleville in south-western Queensland, Capewell made his NRL debut for the Rabbitohs at just 19 years of age in 2008, playing for the club until the end of the 2010 season.

He will complete the 2011 season with the Titans.

Capewell has signed on for the 2012 season and will begin training with the Broncos when the next pre-season gets underway later this year.

Im sad to see him go. I guess the lure was too much and maybe the contract was juicier.

I always take the loss of any Queenslander more heavily. We need more in our squad. It would help bring fans through the gates.

Good luck in 2012 Luke, just not against us!

Wishing him the very best at the broncos - although not at our expense!!! Hope he gets more of a start there than he did with us this year.

Capewell out to fill Locky's big boots
    Jake Dew | July 26th, 2011

THE opportunity to fill the boots of departing Broncos skipper Darren Lockyer is believed to have played a major role in swaying Titans half Luke Capewell to sign with Brisbane on a one-year deal next season.

Just weeks after earning a recall to the Titans, the 22-year-old will join his third club in as many years after returning to Queensland from South Sydney this season.

Brought to the Coast to cover Mat Rogers at five-eighth, the Titans' indifferent form to start the year provided few opportunities for Capewell, who spent the vast majority of the season playing Queensland Cup with the Ipswich Jets.

But Capewell's 15 tries in 12 appearances for the Jets, combined with his match-winning double for the Queensland Residents, brought a recall to the NRL.

Broncos coach Anthony Griffin said Capewell's ability to cover several positions in the backline made him an irresistible target.

The Charleville-raised flyer's services will also provide some solid utility value for the larger Broncos' squad.

"Luke is an elite young player," Griffin said yesterday.

"He has played over 30 NRL games ... and he can play anywhere from halfback to fullback."

A tale of 2 clubs. One believes that players can come out of Q Cup and make an impact at NRL level. One does not. Who's going better??

Capewell isnt going to do anything different to what he has done at Souths or Titans. Broncos have bought him for utility value only

There is a difference, he will get a fair chance at the Broncos unlike Gold Coast.

He was one of our best players until Carty decided he didn't want him.

Why pick Q Cup players when we can go sign players with a reputation, it worked for Souths after all.

Whats the bet he plays more time in Q Cup than NRL with Broncos.

Carty and Management spent money on good long term replacements for next year. It's business and he didnt fit in

A fair chance to play where and for how long?
Do you think he'll get picked in #6 ahead of Hunt & Norman, and stay there?
Do you think he'll replace Wallace at #7?
Do you think he'll get picked in #1 ahead of Hoffman & Beale?
He'll have to produce alot more for the Donkeys than he did for the Titans & Rabbitohs to add to his career tally of 30 games in 4yrs - And good luck to him, but he's been signed outside of their Top 25 for 1yr as a depth utility.....

I think he will get a chance to play #6, and if he plays like he did for the Titans he will keep it.

Wallace has not developed like we all expected, but i don't believe Capewell has a chance at the HB spot.

Hoffman has the FB spot secured for the foreseeable future.

Capewell has been signed as a potential replacement for Darren Lockyer and he will get a fair chance.
