Wooden spoon looms for Titans
FORGET about finals footy, the Gold Coast Titans have now firmed as one of the favourites for the wooden spoon following yet another diabolical performance against the Rabbitohs at the weekend.
While much of the attention has focused on how many games the Titans must win to make the top eight and keep their finals dream alive, they should be more concerned about avoiding their worst finish in the club's history.
Currently dead last on the ladder on points differential, with just four wins, the Titans are staring down the barrel of a disastrous ending to what has so far been a season to forget.
In both 2007 and 2008 the Titans finished with 10 wins and 14 losses.
In 2007 the Titans finished 12th, scoring 409 points and conceding 559 while in 2008 they finished 14th after posting 476 and leaking 586.
So far this season the Titans have only scored 211 points from 14 games.
If they keep going at the same rate they will finish the year with just 360 points to their names.
Adding injury to insult, the Titans will be without tearaway young prop Ryan James for the remainder of the year with scans today expected to confirm a torn anterior cruciate and medial ligaments in his knee.
The injury to James has opened the door for Bears prop Brenton Lawrence, Tweed forward Will Matthews or under-20s young gun Luke Page to get a run against the Sharks.
