Rabbitohs v Storm to be televised live into Melbourne
Victorian Rugby League fans will be able to watch superstar Greg Inglis tackle his former club for the first time live with Channel Nine to broadcast this Sunday?s Telstra Premiership match between the Rabbitohs and Storm live into Melbourne from 3pm.
The decision to broadcast the match live into Melbourne (and to NSW and QLD viewers from 4pm) follows on-going discussions between the NRL, the Storm and Channel Nine and comes after the live broadcast of the Panthers-Storm match into Melbourne in Round 6 as well as live broadcasts of the VB Test between Australia and New Zealand and the 2011 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series.
?There is a growing demand from Victorian Rugby League fans to see more matches in the best possible timeslots on free-to-air television and we have been working with Nine and the Storm to provide those opportunities for them,? NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said today.
?With the support of Jeffrey Browne and Channel Nine, those members and fans are being rewarded for their dedication and they have a great opportunity now to enjoy an exciting match on Sunday.?
Storm Chief Executive, Mr Ron Gauci, said the club is delighted that members and fans will be able to watch Rugby League live on Channel Nine in Melbourne.
?It is excellent to see another Storm game broadcast live in Melbourne and we are delighted with Channel Nine?s commitment to Melbourne Storm and Victorian Rugby League fans,? Mr Gauci said.
?We look forward to continuing to work with Channel Nine on broadcasting more Storm games live into Melbourne in the second half of the season.
?We see this growing commitment by Nine to live coverage in Melbourne as an important step to continuing to develop a strong following of the game in Victoria.
Nine Network Australia Managing Director, Mr Jeffrey Browne, added: ?We are very keen to assist the NRL to develop the great game of Rugby League in the southern states and to partner with the Melbourne Storm and showcase key games to the broad, sports-loving audience in Victoria.?

Now lets give the heartland of Rugby League some live footy on a Sunday afternoon. What about that one Channel 9?
I laugh when AFL fans in QLD and NSW have a whinge, they don't realise how good they have it. So much live footy. Rugby League has no footy on free to air on Saturday's which is a massive own goal and a big gift to AFL who usually give the Lions and Swans that time slot.
Our broadcasting leaves alot to be desired.
