Default What Titans are doing wrong this year :(

just thought id share some stats ive found , could be the reason we are travelling so poor this year

tries off kicks :: 3 ( equal worst in the comp )
tried conceded off kicks :: 10 ( 2nd worst in the comp )
Average Kick Metres Conceded :: 648 ( the worst )
    Average Kick Metres Gained :: 531 ( 4th worst )
    Kick Metres Differential :: -117 ( the worst )
Arnt to bad in metres gained and conceded about 8th in the comp ( isnt to bad considering where we are coming )
The Titans are down on average ~
    points scored (16.6 from 21.3),
    metres gained (1337 from 1379),
    line-breaks (3.4 from 4.3),
    offloads (10.4 from 10.9)
    and tackle-breaks (28.6 from 33.6).
They are also making more errors, with 14 a game (15th in the NRL) compared to 12.1 last year.

Tries Conceded From Close Range: 18 ( 3rd worst )
Tries Scored From Close Range: 11 ( 4th worst )

If winning isn't everything, then why do they keep score?

The stats aren't the reason, they are the result of the reason. We are playing the same team as least year bar Rogers, and have gone from the top of the table to the bottom. A team full of professional athletes do not lose their ability so quickly. Team spirit on the other hand - can be lost quicker than a NSW points lead.
I'm guessing team morale has taken a hit with so many off contract and the flow on effect of signings and non-signings.... Just my 2 cents....
The girl from the ring watched a highlights reel of Greg Bird, she died 7 days later.....

we have been figured out with our woeful attack, thats why we have never gotten close to 40 points in a match and never a big margin of win, if our attack was good from our backs we could be first really

Ouch, totally uncalled for mate :boo: lol

Anyway I've also been thinking its got to be the signings and off contract players that might be causing disharmony amongst the team. Must be hard for players like Tonga to perform when you see your club going all out (cash and tv show) for someone to play your position. Although to his credit, he's been playing pretty well.

Also, don't forget that not only are we without Rogers, we've also been without Friend for like 90% of the season who everyone can agree is a major component of our best team

Fair point patske. But the players making mistakes and giving away penalties is not a result of lost flair. The cocncentration levels just don't seem to be high enough and silly mistakes are killing us. The kicking game is the other area that Rogers excelled at and the Friend and Campbell injuries have certainly not helped. Looking forward to seeing Srama in first grade this week. Hole he has a blinder b

Geese are the ultimate team players.

Imho, the only real difference between this year and last year is our position on the points ladder.

You can take that two ways: (a) are we just unlucky this year, or (b) were we lucky last year?

Reading the comments above, remembering the come from behind miracles, the close finishes and the smashing we got before the GF, it's got to be (b).

We really need a personnel overhaul and the variety that fresh and youthful faces bring. Sorry everybody, I love the club but there has been an unhealthy comfort zone for some in there, clouded with being content with mediocrity.

I get what you're saying with all the come from behind and last minute victories but I wouldn't say they were luck based wins like this year when Orford messed up the scrum at the last minute. Last year we were well known as the 'team that never gave up'. I'm sure there's no not many ppl calling the Titans that this year

When all is said and done we will probably say...

    Titans weren't good enough.

If it's (b), then we were 'lucky' for the last two years consecutive.
Finals flops - yes, but back to back top 4 finishes with only one other club winning more games than us in that 2yr period. Also remember the starts we had to those seasons - ontop of the ladder for the most and barely out of the top 4 for the whole 2yrs. Could all that have been luck in such a competitive competition? Doubt it.....

Errors and bad ref calls alone have cost us a few games this year. Also think lack of long kicking options and attacking options in the opponents 20m.

Titans teams that were so successful over the last two years never scored many points, they just scored more points than whoever they were playing against.

luck is finding a wallet on the street, winning a nrl game isn't, if we had the titans 08 and 09 attacking flair we would be on top of the world, but carty has changed his gameplan since 09 and really to be like the dragons in our way of playing except our defense is not a brick wall and we have better forwards and i dare say backs that aren't getting ball.

    Exactly..........
Our Forwards and defence (most of the time) are not the problem.

they need to be deeper with decoys and run plays similar to Thurston & Bowen/Slater, this needs to be done with Zilly hanging off prince. From there Prince can give it, show and go, dummy or long pass but the main thing for Prince is he needs options and more space. For this to happen he will need better service form dummy than what Brown has been offering.
