The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are saddened to hear of the passing of our former player, Sam Faust, in Townsville this morning.
Sam was a valued member of the Cowboys playing staff until his football career was cut short when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in 2009.
Sam, who was born in Prosperpine, played 24 NRL games for North Queensland in 2007 and 2008.
He made his NRL debut for the club in round 10 of the 2007 season and played in the five straight victories to end that home and away season and in the Cowboys? two finals appearances.
He played his junior football with the Brahmans in his home town.
North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Chief Executive Officer Peter Jourdain said Sam?s passing was a very sad day for the Cowboys and the rugby league community.
?Sam was a talented young footballer and a fine young man,? Mr Jourdain said.
?I know everyone connected with our club, and with rugby league in general, will be saddened by this news.
?The club passes on its condolences on to Sam?s family and friends for their loss.
?We would also like to thank everyone who has helped with raising funds for Sam?s medical treatment since he received his diagnosis.?
The Cowboys will pay tribute to Sam, who was 26 and the father of three children, during Saturday night?s home game against the Roosters at Dairy Farmers Stadium.
Cowboys General Manager ? Football Peter Parr said he would always have fond memories of the young forward.
?Sam is probably best remembered for our run into the finals in 2007 when he helped to get us to within one game of the grand final," Mr Parr said.
?He was always a very popular member of our team and was well respected and liked by all of his teammates, as well as the coaching staff.?
