    Default 2011 Suncorp Double Header

Is there going to be a double header this year at suncorp stadium?

The last 2 years it has been the week of Bulldogs vs Titans with the Bulldogs taking their home game to Suncorp on the Friday night co-inciding with the Broncos home game the same day

Last year it was the friday after Origin 2 with Broncos vs Panthers and Bulldogs vs Titans, but upon checking the 2011 Draw it appears we aren't playing the Bulldogs the same week that Broncos are playing at home, so was it only a 2 year deal where the Bulldogs are taking a home game to Suncorp for a double header to boost their home crowd tally and possibly receive a cash incentive?

Harvey Norman State of Origin - Game I : May 25

    Round 12 : May 27 - 30
Canterbury Bulldogs vs. Gold Coast Titans
North Queensland Cowboys vs. Sydney Roosters
St George-Illawarra Dragons vs. Wests Tigers
    Newcastle Knights vs. Parramatta Eels
Penrith Panthers vs. South Sydney Rabbitohs
Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles vs. Brisbane Broncos
    Melbourne Storm vs. Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

If the double header is still going ahead it appears as it wont be featuring the Titans as we will be playing the Rabbitohs away at ANZ stadium, which in my opinion is a shame as I feel it is a highlight of the week for the NRL with 2 Qld teams playing at the same ground; although after being there last year alot of Broncos fans seemed to have left after they got beaten by the Panthers and missed the action packed and edge of your seat thriller that was the Bulldogs/Titans game with that cliffhanger of a climax to the match with Bird kicking that fieldgoal to clinch the 2 points after we lost Princey to a hamstring tear

Harvey Norman State of Origin - Game II : June 15

    Round 15 : June 17 - 20
Brisbane Broncos vs. St George-Illawarra Dragons
    Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs vs. Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks
    North Queensland Cowboys vs. Warriors
    Newcastle Knights vs. Penrith Panthers
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs. Gold Coast Titans
Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles vs. Parramatta Eels
    Wests Tigers vs. Melbourne Storm

I believe we will see Manly move their home game against Brisbane to Suncorp along with the Bulldogs bringing the Titans to town.

This way we have two non QLD teams hosting games against Brisbane and the Gold Coast at Lang Park.

This also means that the people of Brisbane will actually get an extra game in town instead of "sharing" a game with the Titans and Bulldogs.

The absence of Brisbane Broncos season ticket holders will also very very likely allow the presence of a TITANS BAY, which was only ever possible previously on the third teir, which was very unpopular with Gold Coast fans.

Broncos To Get 13th Suncorp Game With Double Header

Suncorp Stadium will again host a National Rugby League ?doubleheader? in 2011.

Stadium General Manager, Alan Graham said it had been confirmed that on Friday 27 May, the Many Sea Eagles would play the Brisbane Broncos (Manly home game) in the earlier game followed by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs taking on the Gold Coast Titans (Canterbury-Bankstown home game).

This event is over and above the 12 scheduled Broncos home games at the Stadium in 2011.

Mr Graham said the ?doubleheader? concept had been an outstanding success at the Stadium since its inception in 2009 with more than 92,000 fans attending both events.

?Little wonder, given that fans get two quality NRL games for the price one,? he said.

Mr Graham said the doubleheader would be played two days after Game One of the 2011 State of Origin series ensuring an action-packed week of football for Queensland League fans.

?It also proves beyond doubt that Queensland is ?Rugby League Central? in Australia,? he said.

Mr Graham thanked the NRL, the participating clubs and broadcast partner Channel 9 for their support of the doubleheader initiative.

?What started as a novel idea has now become a regular fixture on the Stadium event schedule, and it?s great that all key stakeholders have seen the positives of such a move.

?And it's no surprise that the NRL wants to hold matches like this at Suncorp Stadium. It?s an ideal venue with the infrastructure in place to support major sporting events.?

Mr Graham said ?blockbuster? events such as the NRL double-header were not only great for Rugby League fans but delivered significant benefits to the local economy.

As it is a ?home? game for both the Manly and Canterbury-Bankstown clubs, their members will be able to pre-purchase tickets before they go on sale to the general public. Even though this is not a Broncos home game, their members will also receive a pre-purchase opportunity for this event. The Broncos same seat pre-sale will commence on Monday March 14 and the Broncos supporters pre-sale will commence on Monday 21 March. General tickets will go onsale Monday 4 April.

Broncos Chief Executive, Paul White said although this would not be an official Broncos home game and that Broncos season ticket holders would have to buy a ticket, it was great from the club?s point of view.

?It means we will play 13 games at Suncorp Stadium this year instead of 12, and give our wonderful fans another chance to help cheer us on to victory,? Mr White said.

We should be able to organise a special Titans bay on the lower bowl for Gold Coast fans.

I can't help but notice that we are the only team out of the 4 that get screwed over :| Like yes, i understand why manly and canterbury receive the pre-sale tickets, and yes, i understand in a way why brisbane gets (even though it isnt a home game for them) the pre-sale tickets, but since nearly everyone is being able to buy pre-sale tickets, shouldnt they just leave it open to all 4 teams members receiving pre-sale? It just seems that every game we have at suncorp, we get discriminated
You make sure they remember, forever, the night they played the Titans!

Suncorp to hold third annual Double Header

Suncorp Stadium will again host an NRL double-header in 2011 during Round 12 of the Telstra Premiership.

On Friday, May 27, Manly Warringah Sea Eagles will clash with the Brisbane Broncos followed by Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs taking on the Gold Coast Titans.

The Telstra Premiership double-header is just two days after the opening game of the Harvey Norman State of Origin Series on Wednesday, May 25, that will see Queensland start their quest for an unprecedented sixth straight series victory.

Suncorp Stadium General Manager, Mr Alan Graham, said the double-header concept had been an outstanding success at the Stadium since its inception in 2009 with more than 92,000 fans attending both events.

“What started as a novel idea has now become a regular fixture on the Stadium event schedule and it’s great that all key stakeholders have seen the positives of such a move,” he said.

“It's no surprise that the NRL wants to hold matches like this at Suncorp Stadium. It’s an ideal venue with the infrastructure in place to support major sporting events.”

The double-header will represent ‘home’ fixtures for both the Sea Eagles and the Bulldogs with their members able to pre-purchase tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

Broncos members will also receive a pre-purchase opportunity for this event. The Broncos’ same seat pre-sale will commence on Monday, March 14, and the Broncos’ supporters pre-sale will begin on Monday, March 21.

General tickets will go on sale Monday 4 April

Wish they would do this on a saturday arvo instead of a fri night though. Lets hope the "issues" we had last year ie warm up issues etc are worked out - we dont' want injuries like last year!!!

Diehard - yes you are right - why don't titans members get any presale either - yes its not our home game but titans fans will still buy a lot of tickets so member should be getting a presale opportunity as well :-(
