Default Jarryd Hayne rescues backpacker from surf.

This is taken from ABC News

Rugby League star Jarryd Hayne has been praised for risking his own safety to rescue an Irish tourist at Sydney's Coogee Beach yesterday.

The Parramatta Eels NRL player and his father were swept around 200 metres from shore in heavy surf when they went to rescue the woman from a rip.

Eels chief executive Paul Osborne says Hayne told him they got to the woman just in time.

"He said it wasn't until afterwards that they actually realised that if they hadn't have been there then there could have been a lot sadder ending," Mr Osborne said.

"He said to me that the body had given up and she would have been dragged under, so very fortunate for her and a happy ending."
