Anyone hear Carty on Talkin' Sport this arvo?? Was a good interview that touched on a wide range of points. Namely:
1. He was happy with Walker on the weekend and hoped that he wasn't disappointed about being pulled as he was only ever going to get about 20 or 30 minutes anyway. Replacement had nothing to do with mistakes.
2. He was 'really happy' (and he stressed this point a few times) with Rogers at 5/8. He thinks he brings more to the team there than at centre mainly because of how good he makes our long kicking game on the left. He doesn't want to put Presto in the frontline for too long because he fears for his safety given how fearless he is when targeted by opposition defence.
3. Bringing Bird back at lock was a 'real option'.
4. He was confident that we could get the Warriors in Auckland after the performance the team put in there last year with what he described as indifferent lead up form. He basically said that he thought we were playing ordinary and winning last year, whereas this year we have been competing well and losing.
5. His most telling point was that he said we were a 'Jennings or an Inglis' away from being a real premiership force. He went on to say that it was the lack of a 'gamebreaker' such as these two that prevented us from putting a team to the sword and getting an easy 2 points - something we have never ben able to do. He lamented the fact that we were always in a scrap but went on to say that it was the quality that made him the proudest of the team.
If you can hear it on-line (don't know if you can) or get a transcript it would be worth it cos it was a good interview.
