    From Dragons website....

TOYOTA CUP BACK IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE

The Dragons Toyota Cup side have tonight re-joined the winners list crushing the Titans 34-12 at WIN Jubilee Oval tonight.

The Dragons scored six tries to the Titans two scoring three of those in the final 11 minutes.

It didn’t take long at all for the Dragons to open their account for the afternoon with the first set in possession ending in points. The kick return from Chris Astill saw him eventually brought down on half-way after running 50m. Three tackles later and with the Titans reeling in defence the Dragons sent the ball out to the left and back rower Alex McKinnon ran on to a crisp Beau Henry pass and managed to carry two defenders five metres before reaching out to score 10m in from the eastern touchline. Henry was unable to convert with the Dragons out to an early lead 4-nil after just three minutes of play.

In the 13th minute the Titans got an ounce of luck and answered back with their opening try of the night. Bringing the ball out from their own end the visitors were just settling it up before on the last the kick was put through and a deflection was set upon by the Titans. Centre Alec Jones managed to get his boot to the ball first toeing it down field a further 20m and winning the race to the ball to score next to the right hand upright. Five-eighth Jordan Rankin converted to put the Titans in front 6-4.

The heavens opened after 20 minutes with the remainder of the half played under heavy rain. Both sides had their chances but it was the home side who crossed for their second try of the night through Kyle Stanley in the 37th minute. After earning a penalty on half-way the Dragons worked down field and on the last Henry put a cross kick in towards the uprights and the Titans defence couldn’t handle the ball and Stanley pounced on the loose ball to score. Henry easily converted from in front to secure a 10-6 lead as the two sides went to the half-time break.

The second half started as the first ended with the Dragons making a number of breaks putting the Titans defence on the back foot throughout the opening minutes. The referee had no choice but to award a penalty directly under the posts with the whole Titans line ruled to be offside. The Dragons, in wet conditions elected to take the penalty goal and Henry put the Dragons out to a converted try lead of 12-6 after 46 minutes.

It didn’t take long for the Titans to answer back with fullback Japeth Vaoa crossing in the 50th minute. Vaoa just had too much pace for the Dragons line breaking through the line to score under the uprights. Rankin again converted to level the scores at 12-all.

The Titans were ruled to be offside again this time after a mid-field bomb was put up and some poor handling found the ball bouncing around and the Titans ended up with the ball but in an offside position. From 30m out and straight in front the Dragons again elected to go for the penalty goal attempt with the weather not improving. Henry succeeded to put the Dragons in front 14-12 after 53 minutes.

Just two minutes later the Dragons were able to cross for their third try and it was Stanley who crossed for their second. From the kick off Jarrod Thompson was caught in a high tackle and the Dragons were awarded the penalty. From that set the Dragons continued down field and the ball was sent to the right and Stanley ran 10m carrying one defender to score 15m in from the eastern touchline. Henry converted to extend the lead out to 20-12.

The Dragons finished the match with three tries in the final 11 minutes with the first being scored by Astill and converted by Cameron King and then with six minutes remaining interchange player Evander Cummins went in to score with the attempt at conversion unsuccessful. Kalifa Fai-Fai Loa grabbed the final try of the night in the north-eastern corner and Henry was unable to convert from out wide leaving the Dragons victorious 34-12 in front of their home fans at WIN Jubilee Oval.

DRAGONS 34 (Stanley 2, McKinnon, Astill, Cummins, Fai-Fai Loa Tries; Henry 4, King 1 Goals) def. TITANS 12 (Jones, Vaoa Tries; Rankin 2 Goals)

    Referee: Jon Stone
